How to check the originality of a logo?
Copyright violation is very common in logo now a days. It very important to check the originality of your logo before using it. If you can find it earlier, you could fix it without much harm to your brand. Imagine, if you can't trademark your own logo which you have developed so far, there can't be anything worst than that. You may have to build your brand all over again. Here is our checklist to find out the originality of your logo. Thought it is not a fool proof method, it can still help you to find out the most common violations. 1. Search with keyword: Search Google image with various keywords relevant to you, particularly those which you have provided to the designer. Designer use image search for reference and competitor analysis. By doing a similar kind of search you can make sure your designer has not copied from such images 2. Search for similar image: Google has introduce a image upload and search in the current release. You can upload a image by clicking the camera icon at the right side of the search bar. The search will be on binary level hence it can find the images which are similar to your logo
3. Post it in International Design forum for critics: Post it in international design forum for critics. The designer can generally recall 1000s of logo which they have seen. They will have a habit of reading logo at their concept level. Hence they are good in identifying the similarities very well. 4. Do a paid trademark search: Hire a attorney to do a search on registered logo in trademark database. But they are country specific and you might have to spend Rs2000 in India to do a single search. And the search is only for the companies registered in India. Try all of the above or a combination of some of the above methods to check the violation. Its generally advised for client to soft launch the logo to get public feedback. Only after trademarking their logo without any objection client can start the massive usage of them.
