you know what's depressing, so many love korra now, but only after her character had been stripped of so many of her interesting traits

I’m not very sure since I have actually abandoned the “mainstream” fandom now. I’m now comfortable with my friends who share the same sentiment with me regarding Korra.

The Korra that I fell in love with and defended a lot was cocky, fun, fiery, bullish, bold and confident. She is compassionate, emphatic and emotional and this manifests through her protectiveness, self-sacrifice and sometimes even through violent reactions.  Although Korra is strong, she hides a lot of insecurities inside and she seeks comfort and validation from people close to her. 

This is the Korra a lot of people hated- got labeled as a bitch for the way she asserts her agency, for her violent reactions to extremely stressing and confusing problems she faced. They reduce her character to how she behaved around the love triangle. Haters wanted her “humbled” for the cockiness and confidence. They wanted her to suffer a lot. 

True, by Book 4 the writers actually gave the haters exactly what they wanted from Korra. Then they justified all the violence they subjected her to by having her admit she needed it to be a better person. 

Many shippers defend Korra’s Book 4 arc because the Korra delivered to them to them served the pairing they want. But ask yourself- where is Korra’s passion? Where her strong emotions for her family and friends? Where is her cockiness and confidence? In Book 4, she was a pacified Korra- and people who like the end-game ship call this “character development” and “maturity.” Where is the validation she needed as a hero? Nobody celebrated her legend at the end of her own series. She walked off serving a pairing and guess what? This is what a lot people will talk about her for years. 

Sorry for the long rambling. But Korra’s tragedy will always hurt my heart.

you must be one of the few korrasami shippers who actually didnt like book 4 or how korrasami was handled

Not a K-orrasami shipper -  ship damaged Korra’s arc and the writers capitalized on it all lot and pretended they handled it well. 

Not a M-akorra shipper - ship required heartbreak for the sake of nonsense shipping drama, broken-off to pander to the hate base

Not a B-orra shipper -  ship and friendship was treated as a joke by the writers

I’m Korra x justice. No seriously, I don’t ship anyone with Korra romantically anymore, maybe with Tahno as a crackship. 

I hate Book 4 regardless on who Korra ended up with - since that ship probably ate up her final scenes and resolution to her arc anyway

I feel bad about this, but I will never ever agree that KS romantic subplot positively affected Korra’s arc. Never. It’s actually negative. 

I will make this stand; I never ever liked Makorra in Book 1 and Book 2 but we will never agree if you argue that this romantic subplot ate Korra’s arc. No it didn’t at all. I feel that a lot of people try to justify Korra’s Book 4 arc because they like the KS pairing so much and try to present it as something positive to Korra while MK is “negative.”

When Mako and Korra kissed Book 1 and broke up in Book 2 it’s all about Korra. And these happened after she resolved a narrative arc centered around her. In Book 1 she defeated Amon because she wanted to save someone (Mako), then she connected with the past Avatars and in Book 2 she tapped cosmic energies to defeat the embodiment of darkness and decided to change the world. Like it or not, Makorra doesn’t take away anything from Korra’s personal arcs. 

The MK romance affected Korra’s relationship with A-sami and hurt A-sami’s feelings and that is a bad thing, but nonetheless Korra’s connection with people are not ignored. Although Bolin was hurt, he and Korra were still really good friends. Korra is still close to Tenzin and his family and her parents. All subplots regarding her relationships with them is resolved. 

In Book 4, because of unknown reasons Korra only writes to A-sami. That’s fine up to “Korra Alone.” All but in “Reunion” she's only shown to look forward in meeting with her and Mako. When Mako asked her why she didn't write back, her only answer is something... a friend wouldn’t say. “I didn’t know what to say” then she resumes being happy with A-sami. No resolution. Mako and Korra are friends and friends do not just cut off communications like that then have no apologies or resolution.

What did they do in that entire episode? Rescue Wu and this is absolutely unimportant to the EK plot. It’s not like it would show Kuvira’s evil, it’s not like we need to know Wu’s life is in danger. Instead of reconnecting with people, they need to have Korra have an unnecessary adventure where’s she’s teased with Mako and A-sami. And note, this triangle subplot happened while Bolin was being hunted in the Earth Kingdom and saving political prisoners. Why didn't any of them care about him???

Then what is A-sami’s connection to the Earth Empire plot anyway when all she did was stay in the city? At least Mako talked with Bolin and had a disagreement about Kuvira so there was a clash of opinions. A-sami is... in the city. 

How about Pema, Lin, HER PARENTS??? Like in Mako’s case, Korra is close to these people yet where is the damn reconnection??? 

The most positive is possibly “Remembrances” where A-sami recapped the entire story. But it’s nothing but a recap. Nothing that tells about their feelings for each other even as friends when Mako had an entire section telling how much Korra changed his life. Bolin even said his life’s story began when he met Korra. A-sami was with Korra yet we didn’t learn anything new about them. 

Then the damn ending. After Korra was sidelined in the final battle, became an “inspirational tortured person,” and subjected into a “tamed brown girl” trope, her final scenes were used to service Varrick’s wedding and A-sami’s daddy drama. Again it didn't serve her story, it was meant to serve a pairing. Where is her leading a new age like in Book 2? Where is Korra being recognized as a hero by everyone like what Aang got in his final episode???

It’s hard to keep it inside but I have to say this. I know many people find this pairing important but the execution is just terrible and it damaged Korra’s arc which is infinitely more important to me than who she ends up with.
