Let Me In | legendssoldierscientists
Thor has never been as conflicted as he is now. For centuries he and Loki had known that they were meant to be mates; stolen kisses and naked touches when there was no risk of being found out. He loved Loki with his soul, had gone to Loki so often when the burdens Odin put on him became to much. Loki had been his everything and yet, here they were. The other side of a war that Thor had no idea what had caused it. Loki knew how much Thor adored earth, but he didn’t know that at some point, the blonde wanted them to make a home there where no one could judge or punish them. Was it just Thor’s adoration that had caused the attack? Was it really just some attempt to spite Odin again? The most piercing question in Thor’s heart was heavier than any other question that ran through his mind. Loki’s reactions to him on earth, even when Loki had stabbed him, there was something unfamiliar, foreign. Why act so rigid and fearful, even when Thor begged. Something wasn’t right, but Thor couldn’t get Loki to talk to him about why, or what had happened to make him seem suddenly so terrified of Thor’s presence. He was on the balcony when his mother came to inform him of his father’s choice, to forever leave Loki in the dungeons, and the blonde god immediately argued with her over it.
“Loki is my responsibility. Why should I not be the one to decide his fate? Earth was under my protection, not father’s.”
“Thor, my beloved prince, your father knows all too well your fondness for Loki. He believes you would go easy on him due to your affection for him. I know, however, that your love for each other is the only reason he gave up the fight.” Frigga had answered. Thor’s blood had run cold, and his face had obviously paled enough for his mother to laugh. “Come now, did you two think you could hide from me, of all people? Your father may not be able to see it, but I have known for many years about the two of you.”
“Hush.” Frigga had silenced her son with a wave of her hand. “You know now why it has never bothered me to see the two of you in the way you are, though most don’t see it based solely on their long lived belief of your relation. Even if Loki had been of Asgard, it does not change the fact that he is yours and you are his. I just wish your father would listen to me more carefully. The situation is precarious at best and I do not wish for my boys to be torn apart by this, when your love has withstood so much here.” Giving her son a smile, she pulled a small, silver key from her dress sleeve, holding it out. “This will be a great assistance to you, but only if you know how to use it.”
Thor had reluctantly taken the key, looking at it. “What is it?”
“Your father may be King, but as Queen, I have my own things to attend to as well. Such as assuring the future Asgardian King has a way to his mate.” The goddess had smiled at Thor, reaching up to touch his cheek before letting her eyes slip to the large, open closet in his room. “You will find a door in the back, and following the hall will take you to Loki’s cell. No one else knows that it exists, and only you or Loki will be able to see or use it.” she explained. “Even in his cell, Loki will be able to use his abilities, so should he wish to see you, all he need do is use that spell he’s so fond of and come to you, but you must tell him you’re open to that possibility.” she added.
Thor watched the woman, going to look among the royal cloths and outfits, finding the door in question. He paused though, confliction in him as he stood still. He didn’t need to see his mother to know she had followed him. “Something is wrong, mother.” he finally spoke.
“With Loki? Yes. He won’t dare let me close enough to ask him, though. I fear you’re the only one who can get the truth of what happened.” Her tone was sad and when Thor looked at her, even the upturned curl of her lips were sorrowful. “He is your mate, and no matter what, you two can get through this. Just believe in that bond as you have for so many years, my son, and all will work out in time.” She had then turned to go, leaving him alone in front a door only he could see, a way to the one person who could answer everything and the one soul that his longed to be with for as long as they could have it. After what felt like an eternity, Thor had reached to unlock the door, but the key vanished in his hand, the knob turning and opening on its own. HE had blinked and glanced around before vanishing inside.
And so here he was, standing on the outside of a door that he knew Loki was on the other side, that he knew the raven haired god could likely sense him, and yet he couldn’t bring himself to open it. Lifting a hand, he laid on the door, frowning a little as he tried to clear his mind. “Loki...” he said softly. “If you can sense me, will you let me in?” It seemed to be a loaded question to Thor, so many meanings behind the phrase. Right now, however, he just wanted Loki to let him into the cell. To be within reach of the other god in a capacity that they hadn’t had since before Loki had surfaced on Earth. “Please, dearest, I want to see you.” his voice was softer now, eyes cast to the floor as he waited, hoping it would open.
