This is in fact a first hand experience. I totally ate shit going down a staircase at school, so now I’m lying incapacitated on my couch, bored af. Enjoy this short lil thing.
Also, if you guys like Lumi I may do more stuff with them. I kind of like Dad Loki stuff, so lmk if you want to see more of him and Lumi!
He materialized on the doorstep of his Midgardian home, glad to finally be done with Avenger’s nonsense for the day. The hulking black car that Lumi had aptly named Onyx was parked in the driveway. They’d probably been home for a while now, school would’ve let out almost an hour ago.
He unlocked the door, stepping into the comfort of his home. He was about to make his way to Lumi’s room, to let them know he was home, but was surprised to see them on the living room couch.
“Hey, Tall Man.” They waved, taking their eyes off the television.
“Hello, Small Person.” Loki responded. He frowned, eyes trailing down to the towel and icepack placed over your calf. “What happened? Are you injured?”
Lumi chuckled at the note of concern in his voice. “Yup. I totally ate shit on the stairs, which were unfortunately, made of cement.”
“How did it happen?” Loki quickly joined his child on the couch, gently removing the icepack to inspect the damage. Almost the entirety of their lower leg was covered in large band-aids.
“I think the heel of my boot caught the step as I was coming off it.” They explained, pausing their show. “I tumbled down a quarter of the stairs and tore up my leg. Got my elbow, too.”
Loki cringed at Lumi displayed their bandaged elbow. “Are you injured anywhere else?”
“I’ve got a massive bruise on my hip, other than that I’m living my best life.”
He rolled his eyes at their lackadaisical attitude. They were taking this all awfully well. “You seem no worse for wear. How long ago did this happen?”
“Eh, it was during lunch, so like eleven thirty-ish? It’s been a few hours. I went to the nurse to get patched up right after.”
“Ah, so you’ve had ample time to recover.” Loki noted, waving a slow hand over Lumi’s calf, enveloping it in a warm green light. “I really ought to teach you healing magic, shouldn’t I?”
“It would certainly make my life a lot easier.” They agreed, pressing their fingers experimentally to their bandages, peeling them off once they felt no pain. “I was pretty close to tear at the time, but now it’s really funny.”
“Of course it is,” He rolled his eyes. “Give me your arm, please.”
Lumi let him heal their elbow next, watching in awe as the green light once again washed over it. “That is seriously cool,” They muttered.
Loki hummed, pressing a quick kiss to the healed skin. “How’s that bruise? Want me to take care of it?”
“No, that’s alright. It wasn’t really impairing my movement.” They flexed their arm trepidatiously. Once satisfied, they curled their leg up to their chest, feeling out the muscles. “Hell yeah, no pain. Thanks, dude.”
Loki sighed at the term of endearment. “You’re welcome. How was your day, other than the, quote, ‘eating shit’?”
“Pretty boring up until then.”
“Nothing like a sudden injury to make things interesting.”
“Exactly! My friend Will jogged ahead of me when we were walking to seventh period, and when I yelled at him that I couldn’t run, he told me to walk it off.”
“How considerate of him.”
“He did then offer to carry me the rest of the way to class.” Lumi added.
“Did he?”
“I wouldn’t let him. I needed everyone to see how pathetic I was so they’d feel sorry for me.”
“That’s how you win any fight, darling child.” Loki replied, a twinkle in his eye. “Get them to underestimate you, then hit them where it hurts.”
“Yes, I intentionally hurt myself so I can put your battle methods into practice.” Lumi sarcastically drawled.
Loki gently shoved them over and dug his fingers into their side until they squealed with laughter. “There may come a day where you’ll be grateful for my advice.”
“I guess until then I’ll keep tripping down stairs,” Lumi sighed melodramatically, letting one arm dangle limply off the couch.
“The most dangerous enemy: a staircase.”
“They really are my most dangerous enemy.” They sat up, a grin of realization spreading across their face. “Remember last year when we visited Asgard for the weekend?”
“If you’re about to tell me about another stair-related accident I will laugh at you.” He warned.
“Grandma was showing me to my room. I missed a step and tumbled down half the staircase.” You snickered.
Loki did not laugh, but rather let out an amused puff of air. “I’m assuming she healed you right away?”
“Yeah, that’s the only reason she didn’t tell you.”
He squinted at his child. “I’m going to teach you teleportation just so you don’t have to risk falling down stairs anymore.”
