yeah I mean I don’t know about the writers, but definitely having a director who was gay definitely added something Special™ to the project that I think made the difference for me.
It’s very hard to articulate but there’s definitely something about it that just captures something really fucking genuine about growing up gay and ah. im so emotional about that movie

update: did, very wholesome, different to the book, kinda like the book more but that’s always me
I low key kinda liked the movie more probs bc I feel like there’s just Something about it that changes w/ the touch of a gay director but also the book is also so important and wonderful too so it is very close
