The Price of Freedom
I'm lonely inside. Isn't everyone? It is my own fault isn't it? All the pain and rejection over my years, the never ending cycle of pain, ache, worry, and relief. It's all very tiring. Very tedious. Very cold. It is my choice to lock myself away? It was? A duchess doesn't wait for a prince or a duke, but she rules the same powers as a princess. She has the same responsibilities and pride, the same respect and authority. Doesn't she? Why is it the princess run free while the duchess is stuck in the tower? Why must it be the princesses whom receive the great tales of adventure, the eye of the world, and the suitors from far away lands? Nay, I say. The duchess cannot endure another lonely bed, another bought of frozen fingers, nor another assumption to be a lesser princess. The duchess will be free. Yet, why must freedom feel so cold?
