"Yes, all of those things…amoung others…"
He looked away, dark cheeked as he allowed his nails to dig into his upper arms.
But as Malik answered his question, Bakura sighed and looked to the boy.
"You…you are related to priests and guardians…yet you are a slave?"
Malik rose a thin brow once more. What a strange on this boy was. It seemed that he suffered some of the same attacks as Malik, but he had not warded them off. And now he was dwelling in shame. How unfortunate.
Malik heaved a sigh. What a world they lived in. He shifted himself to lay lazily along the the thick rim of the fountain. His arms folded behind his head as a pillow. One foot dipped into the fountain without care. He was obviously confident and at ease to be so bold. “The Pharaoh always gets what he wants. When I was a boy I groomed to be a tomb guardian in my father’s stead, after his time was over.”
He paused. He was not certain if this low end boy knew anything about status. “Do you know what tomb guardians are? They are simply priests of lower caliber. I came to the palace with my father for one of his meetings. I was only a child, bright eyed and full of energy. The Pharaoh saw me singing and dancing about the halls and plucked me up to dance in the court. My father always valued tradition over family so he obliged. And now he must train a cousin of mine as an heir. My sister was lucky enough to be chosen as priestess and my cousin Mahado.” Malik had no qualms over revealing this information. Everyone knew.
"The Pharaoh always gets what he wants."
desert-thorn:
"I have heard of them, briefly."
Bakura hated his lack of knowledge, but most Masters didn’t care if he was learned or not.
But at hearing the priest’s name, Bakura’s head tilted.
"You’re related to that priest?"
"You see them wander into the palace from time to time, on business. The clan is heavily associated with the palace. They are the Pharaoh’s servants. Malik shrugged as if it was no matter. "Yes, Mahado is my cousin. We look enough alike, I thought it to be obvious. And my sister is Isis." His kinship had made people suspect favoritism.

"I don't get a chance to see many people from the court," Bakura admitted. When he did get to be in the same room as them, he kept his head down, at his Master's heel.
"I suppose I never got the chance to notice. Plus I only just met you today," he tried to reason as he kept his gaze lowered.
