Hiking #CannonMountain- Cannon should be a familiar sight for anyone traveling in the White Mountains, the hike up to the summit is moderate to moderate+, probably not the best first #4000footer to tackle. A pretty easy and heavily trafficked trail to start from the Layette Campground to #LonesomeLake and then a flat walk through some low bogs and marsh until you approach the base of Cannon. . . The last part of the hike gets pretty steep, and you have two routes to choose from- the Hi-Cannon which involves a number of ladders, or the “Cannon Balls” which is a hand over foot scramble up a stack of pretty big boulders. (These are a lot easier going down than up) . . We took the Cannon Ball Route, and the bonus for climbing Cannon is there’s food & water at the restaurant at the Tram (beer too I think). The summit is heavily trafficked with people who’ve taken the Tramway up and the official summit is atop a wooden tower with great views of Mount Layette and Franconia Ridge across the highway. I’d definitely recommend exploring some of the side trails up here as well the weathered trees in the alpine zone hug the ground and hide a number of great lookout spots if you explore a bit #igersnewengland #whitemountains #optoutside #hiking #hikethewhites #igersnh (at Cannon Mountain) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz31tGWltW7/?igshid=1qgi2zmapromf
