So I got asked out on my first date over facebook...
And this guys seems really nice, though I don't know him too well, we've run in the same circles for a couple of years. He asked if I wanted to go to see Captain America 2 with him (Which I would love to see) and I told him I needed to ask my parents if they were making plans for tomorrow. They asked to see a picture of him and I showed them on Facebook. Well, all of a sudden my dad was really uncomfortable with me going out with him. Because he's black and I'm white. We had a long conversation after that. My Dad said stuff like, "I'm not racist and I don't think anyone is inferior, but people should date and marry within their own cultures. Asians with Asians, Whites with Whites, Blacks with Blacks et cetera.", "You shouldn't date someone unless you believe that they would be a suitable person to marry. That's what dating is.", "To me, a white girl dating a black man means that she couldn't find someone good looking enough or suitable in her own race.", "If people see a white person and a black person dating, I'd be concerned for their safety in public. (Because of other people's reactions.)" (None of these are exact quotes, but really close to what he said.
I feel like crying right now. I didn't have a crush on the boy, but it was my first time getting asked out on a date ever. I'm going on that date tomorrow, but I don't think my dad would allow a second date. Is this really such a big deal?
