Reposted from @centerforgreatapes Let’s talk about orangutans. The Center for Great Apes is the only accredited sanctuary in all of North and South America for orangutans. The sanctuary currently is home to 12 big males. Additionally, we care for 15 female orangutans who live with and among the males. Add together the expenses of providing adequate space and quality and knowledgeable caregivers with the fact that orangutans eat a lot, we’re looking at approximately $25,000 per year (closer to $30,000 per male per year).
