Chapter 48 Meeting Their Public Secrets and Lies
They enter a huge room that is already partially full of people. The soft mummur of voices get louder when they are seen.
" There they are!" And they are swamped. Kate, uncomfortable in crowds, shinks back.
" Okay guys, lets give them room." The PR lady says as Sean instinctively draws her close. " They are here to meet you. But lets give them a bit of breathing room."
The crowd of mostly ladies moves back. And Kate takes a deep breath and gives Sean a shaky smile. He smiles back at her. Cameras flash capture the moment. Something they won't be aware of until later.
They are directed to a table set up to sign autographs and talk for a moment or two with each fan. The first few fans are excited but respectful. They talk about how they can't wait to see their favorite book come to life. It is easy to engage with them. To give them smiles and give them the tidbits they are allowed to share.
But then a group of three women come up. Kate is ignored. Their interest is only in Sean. He tries to direct them to Kate also. To no avail. Kate keeps a smile on her face as Sean is fawned over. He is polite but not overly so. Keeping a professional distance between them.
And then one of the ladies reaches out to touch Sean's chest and Kate snaps.
" There is to be no touching." She didn't mean to be that loud but the fans waiting a few rows back stop their conversations and look up. Oh hell.
" Well aren't you the possive one. " One of the other three says. Sean, meanwhile, had shied away from her friend's touch.
" It is the rule." Kate responds.
" It is." The PR lady adds." You are not to invade their personal space."
The three are ushered away. The rest of the fans, even those Kate refers to in her head as Sean only's, are respectful of the no touching rule. But she knows the damage has already been done. Her reaction gave her away.
