“Oh - it’s - it’s nothing, really.” Hastily her hands went to her face and she wiped at her eyes in quick, harsh motions, squeezing them shut. “I’m just - I’m just being silly.”
She hadn’t thought to be discovered. It was a long day - a long week, really. The first half of the week was spent making sure her students’ recital would go well, and it still ended up full of technical difficulties anyway. The other half of her time had been spent doing meetings with some truly harrowing potential parents at the orphanage she volunteered at. All of which, an unprecedented rate, had ended in disappointed tears for the children. On top of that, of course, because she hadn’t had time to practice, she’d barely scraped by her own theory exams.
It was one of those weeks when it felt like she simply couldn’t do anything right - a feeling she hated, not being enough - and getting discovered by her sister while crying about it seemed like one more thing gone wrong. Angelica was going to worry, and Eliza never wanted Angelica to worry too much.
"You don’t have to kill anyone,” She tried her best to smile, “Unless you can kill everyone who says they’ll take any age on the paperwork and then decides that a child is too old to ‘integrate into a new family’ when they’re face to face with a twelve-year-old.”
