Looking: The Movie
The more I think about Looking, the more I realize that the reason I like it so much (much better, I think, the second time around) is because it understands that people and the places we call home are intertwined.
This is intimated by the fitting send-off to the series, which was axed very prematurely by HBO. At the end of the movie, Eddie said, “this city drives me freaking crazy sometimes, but right now I think it feels like the best place in the world.” To which Doris said, “Yes it does. My God, these eggs are disgusting. But they are so good.”
It was almost dawn, they just came from a night of partying, and on Castro, Patrick, Dom, Agustin and Doris with Eddie and Richie sit in a corner table of a dingy diner called Orphan Andy’s, feeling very much at home.
My God, I miss my friends and the little family and nook we have created in the damp, disgusting place we anyway call home.
