Posted @withrepost • @missjulee Look at how my mama looks at me. It makes my heart sing. It makes me want to be a better Julee. It makes me strive to make her proud. I’m just so thankful that she CAN see me at all. As I mentioned in an earlier post, my mom is dealing with Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) – a retinal disease caused by complications from diabetes that has affected her eyesight. And while that is upsetting in many ways, it’s not something we dwell on. In fact, my mom is just as vibrant as ever. If you’ve ever wondered where I get my sassiness and dopeness from, it’s my mama! And diabetes has taken none of that away from her. I’m just hoping that more people understand the risks associated with diabetes – the loss of eyesight being one of them. My mom has been able to maintain some of her sight because she caught it early. I pray that everyone who reads this can either help protect against vision loss in the first place or stop it from getting worse. Again, please visit the link in my bio to learn more about DR.
