Don’t talk to me or my daughter ever again
no, i don't think Lore Olympus tried to demonize and villainize Demeter
lo has always tried to depict Demeter as complex a character, that despite her flaws, she still loves and cares about the people around her, but her pain and fears has blinded her to the point that not only did she ended up hurting the people around her, but also drive them away from her, especially her own daughter, the one person she loved the most and wanted to protect more than anything.
The webtoon has always tried to acknowledge Demeter's pain and fears, her flaws, and her caring, protective, and loving nature, but it's the fans and the hatedom's lack of media literacy that they failed to realize how complex Demeter's character is.
So no, lo never demonized and villainized Demeter, you did
Lore Olympus stuff, Persephone, Hera and a little Hebe cameo, and a Demeter doodle. I wanna draw more LO stuff, big Minthe post soon hopefully
Iasion knows how much Demeter suffered.
Okay im back on my lore olympus reading bc I am always tempted to utilize certain parts of it (Because I do like parts of it) but I stumbled back on this panel and like. Why did Rachel Smythe decide to rewrite Demeter being raped by Poseidon as them having a fling and Demeter being pissy about him not raising his kid? Why did Smythe feel the need to rewrite her assault so she can make a three panel joke about it?
Proof:
"[5] When Demeter was wandering in search of her daughter, she was followed, it is said, by Poseidon, who lusted after her. So she turned, the story runs, into a mare, and grazed with the mares of Oncius; realizing that he was outwitted, Poseidon too changed into a stallion and enjoyed Demeter. (Pausanias, Description of Greece, 8.25.5)
Demeter, they say, had by Poseidon a daughter, whose name they are not wont to divulge to the uninitiated, and a horse called Areion. (Pausanias, Description of Greece 8.25.7)
(Pausanias was a Greek Scholar who wrote "Descriptions of Greece", which is widely used as a source for Ancient Greek myths, customs, and certain aspects of the religion.)
some greek goddesses
been obsessed with WNSO recently so I made some Hadestown-verse designs for Hestia and Demeter.
…
We have been waiting literal years for mama Demeter to go apeshit on this asshole,to kick hiss ass and devastate him to the extent that only a single mother hellbent on protecting her only daughter could.
…and THIS is what we get?
