what happened?
It was a special day.
Him & Illumina were going on a mission, & that meant that they’d be visiting the mortal plane. It wasn’t everyday that deities got to interact with mortals & witness their everyday lives.
He was specifically going to help Illumina with some plan she had brewing, & he was fairly intrigued, but also a little intimidated.
The two deities marched through tall grass, the starry night sky providing them enough light to guide their way there.
They eventually had to pass through a thick & overgrown forest, the trees tall with vegetation growing on them, almost choking them out. The grass was full of bugs & other fauna, & all of it was hostile to outsiders. Illumina had to kill a snake or two on her way.
This was absolutely no place for someone like Ghostwalker. He was a doctor, he knew how gross things were, he knew all the ways you could get sick- so he was incredibly tense. He was grossed out. Illumina thought he was being overdramatic.
“Don't you think we should…y’know, be taking another way?! Since this one is infested with snakes?!” He shuddered as he walked through bug-infested vegetation. Illumina, on the other hand, was unbothered.
“Are you actually intimidated by some bugs & snakes?”
He continued to protest. “Yes?! Do you know how easily you could get an infection?! How easily you could get sick!?”
“Overdramatic much?” She let out an exasperated sigh, her feathers ruffling slightly. She was just going to ignore his complaining.
They eventually got to a clearing, the two of them halting. The moonlight was peeking through the tree’s leaves, highlighting the clearing. Highlighting the two gods.
“Stay here,” Illumina seemed a little tense, which puzzled the other. “I have to retrieve something.”
Ghostwalker was a bit skeptical. “Why can’t I go with you? You were going to show me something after all.”
“Just stay here.” She huffed, beginning to walk away from him. Ghostwalker just sighed, adjusting his glasses. He didn’t feel argumentative.
He watched her figure get more & more distant, standing in the tall grass of the clearing. Where was she even going to? Whatever.
He waited.
‘Where is she?!’
It had been actual hours since he last saw her. He was still standing there, waiting. He was growing rather impatient.
He eventually had grown tired of waiting, & started moving around with a groan, calling out her name.
“Illumina?!”
Nothing.
“ILLUMINA!??”
Still no response.
This was starting to freak him out a little, his nerves were starting to get the best of him. He started pacing around & looking frantically.
Then he heard something.
A stick being stepped on, snapped.
He whipped his head around towards the direction of the noise, his heart pounding in his chest.
Was that Illumina?
“..Illumina?” He called out, taking a step forward. Maybe this was Illumina. He hoped it was Illumina. He was freaking out.
No response. Just another rustling noise, but this time from behind him.
He turned his head towards the other noise, taking a step back. He was on edge, his fight or flight instincts were kicking in.
Another noise.
This was really starting to freak him out. But he still wanted to stand his ground, so he tried speaking to whatever this was, trying to sound tough.
“Whatever- whoever you are- jus-”
Someone lunged out at him. He fell back onto the ground, trying to scramble back to his feet.
Then someone else jumped out.
One of them had him pinned down, he was thrashing & trying to scream, but he couldn't seem to. Would anyone even hear him?
The other had some…strange device. They seemed to loom above him, the other person talking to them & telling them what to do. He couldn't make out what they were saying.
Whatever they had, whatever they used on him- it hurt. It hurt alot. It was like a jolt of pain had been sent throughout his body, practically immobilizing him. He felt sluggish. Everything grew quiet & fuzzy.
They were dragging him somewhere now. They were dragging him. But he couldn't do anything. He felt his eyes grow heavy.
& he drifted off to sleep..
Waking up. Everything was cold.
He was tied up- his mouth covered so he couldn’t scream. He scanned his surroundings, the unfamiliar area sending him into a panic- where the hell was he?
He tried to thrash & wiggle himself around, but he was stopped by something. By someone.
He looked up in terror. It was a small, indigo colored demon. They were missing an eye, & wearing some sort of lab coat & thick rubberized black gloves. Large goggles sat on top of their head, pushing their hair back a little.
They looked down at him, laughing in a mocking manner. They kicked him back a little with their heavy boots, grabbing the end of the rope that was tied around his neck, pulling him back to them.
He gagged, but his coughs & gags from his air being restricted were muffled due to his mouth being covered. He was terrified. He looked up at the strange mortal, terror in his eyes.
“Who knew gods could be so pathetic? So weak… it’s so funny!”
They laughed once more, going on. They seemed amused, but in reality, they were seething. He could feel their disgust & hatred towards him.
“You think you're any better then us? That you deserve more? That you're special?! WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU DESERVE IT- HUH?? YOU HAVE DONE NOTHING TO DESERVE WHATS BEEN GIVEN TO YOU.”
That’s when they attacked him. They seemed to have… various sharp objects within their reach. They had a metal rod with a sharpened end, & they stabbed it right in his eye.
He screamed, trying to scramble back- but he was trapped. Blood poured out of the wound, gushing out of his face & puddling onto the floor, getting all over him. He was crying. But they didn't stop.
“NOTHING. NOTHING! DO YOU KNOW HOW DISGUSTING YOU ARE? HOW SELFISH?”
They struck him again, this time leaving a nasty gash above his other eye. His glasses fell off his face, right into the growing puddle of his own blood.
He looked up at them with pure terror & horror, tears streaming down his face.
Then they stopped, falling silent for a moment.
Before softly & darkly chuckling to themselves, dropping the weapon. They looked at him, smiling. They put a hand on his cheek, his eye darted to their hand frantically.
“...but I can fix you.”
A couple other demons came out of seemingly nowhere, grabbing him & then hitting him over the head.
Then it all went dark.
