1998 - Thurston Moore’s “Root” exhibit @ Chisenhale Gallery in London. This experience blew my tiny 21-year-old mind 🤯 (I still have the CD somewhere in a box, though it appears you can purchase the tracks on bandcamp https://lorecordings.bandcamp.com/album/root-lo11)

“In October of 1997 independent music label Lo Recordings received a DAT tape containing 30 different one-minute guitar pieces by New York arthouse guitarist Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. Each piece was copied onto individual one-minute tapes and then packaged in a custom designed vacuum cleaner bag. In order to fully exploit the potential for musical/visual cross-fertilization In Recordings teamed up with leading contemporary art venture Commercial Too. One hundred bags were sent out to a selection of the most creative visual artists and musicians, inviting them to create a brand new work utilising the original piece as a starting point. The original idea was to produce a CD compilation of music together with an exhibition of visual work. However, so overwhelming was the response that the project has expanded to include a web-site, various off-shoot events and a second CD with accompanying CD-Rom to be released in the new year. Root will be launched with an exhibition in October at Chisenhale Gallery and will also form part of the Pandmmonium Festival.”

A band consisted entirely of bassists, this is their debut album, entitled 'A Negative For Francis' released on the Lo Recordings label in 1999. There have been a number of different lineups over the course of the band's history, with founder Mark Beazley the only continuous member. Crawford Blair and Jon Meade were amongst the initial members of the band.
