Album of the Day: Alabaster dePlume “To Cy & Lee: Instrumentals Vol. 1″ (International Anthem / Lost Map / Total Refreshment Centre)
An absolutely beautiful album here from saxophonist, poet and Total Refreshment Centre studio resident, Alabaster dePlume. A collection of previous released but now remastered songs, plus new material featuring Sarathy Korwar and Dan Leavers aka Danalogue (Comet Is Coming / Soccer96). Made reality via the collaboration of Lost Map, the Hebridean label who released his previous album, Total Refreshment Centre’s in-house record label, and trailblazing Chicago label, International Anthem.
“To Cy & Lee” is a deep, melodious and meditative listen from beginning to end. Whilst dePlume is as well known for his poetry as his musicianship, not to mention his electric stage presence, his kind and welcoming personality shines through on this entirely instrumental album. Much of the music is hypnotic, with deep, slowly paced and strong rhythms, whilst exhibiting wonderful melodic and harmonic qualities at the same time. The entire album has a strong unified feel, but contains surprises from track to track, From opener “Visit Croatia”, quietly restrained and emotive, to the playful closing waltz of “I Hope”. A must-listen record for these stressful times.
The almost nostalgic magic of the album is captured magnificently in the cover art of Raimund Wong.

Click here to buy in the US, or check out your local record stores.
Streaming also on Spotify, Apple and likely all DSPs.
Streaming is great, but if you can afford to make a purchase, it will be a lot more beneficial to the artists and labels, especially at this time.
