WIP excerpt: Lost Things
Sylvia was torn between the desire to open her eyes and witness her surroundings and the need to keep them closed forever, however long that may be. She felt her heart pounding in her ears, blood pumping at what she suspected was an alarming speed. Her cheek was wet; whatever clung to her skin smelled like mud and something much worse that she didn’t want to think about.
This is a dream, it’s all just a bad dream.
But vampires didn’t sleep. Sylvia slowly pried her eyes open and blinked into near-total darkness. She was in some kind of tunnel. As her eyes adjusted she noted the walls dripping with water and the cement ground littered with puddles. She attempted to get up but the sharp pain that shot through her leg had her on her knees, a painful contact on its own.
This shouldn’t be happening!
She could now see the end of the tunnel lit up by what little moonlight peaked through the heavy clouds. She tried once more to stand up, grit her teeth through the pain, and placed a hand on the wall as she moved toward that waning light.
“I’m - agh! I’m gonna kill that bastard!”
But Alessandro was nowhere to be seen. Sylvia knew in her once-dead heart that he wouldn’t be waiting for her at the end of the tunnel. He was long gone and she was here, wet, cold, in pain. None of which she knew how to handle.
Some feedback would be appreciated
