Hi it's been a while since you cave posted. Do you have new cave posts?
Ahh I don't really post about caves I mostly rb them 😭
Buuut I have been listening to Trapped! By Robert K Murray and Roger W Brucker, which is an interesting read about the story of Floyd Collins, if you're interested in that. Goes very into depth not only about Collins himself, but also the culture surrounding Cave City during the cave wars and generally just that region of Kentucky.
Also I have been reading about Lost World Caverns; a cave system in Southern West Virginia :> For me personally as far as the actual cave goes it's pretty unremarkable(not even 2 miles long and only just over 100 or so feet in depth) but the history is interesting. There have actually been bones discovered within the cave from prehistoric bears that likely lived within the cave, which makes it pretty fucking old 💖
There's a joint museum putting the bones discovered in the cave as well as others on display. I believe it's specifically an ancestor to the modern blackbear; 15 feet in height and a skull almost twice as large as the one we know today :]
It seems to be a sizable museum. I'm surprised I haven't really heard anybody talk about it because it seems to be a nice cozy guided tour. They offer one more of the spelunking variety as well.
On top of that the current owner bought the property in 99 and has since focused on conservation; mold that was harmful to local wildlife was growing in the cave and they recently installed special lighting to combat it, which is always nice to hear about :>
I say the cave itself is a little boring, but that's a little harsh. It's home to many gorgeous sights like any cave is <3
The second photo is of Warclub, a HUGE stalagmite within the cave which actually holds a world record. Not for its size, but because somebody sat on it for just shy of 16 days?!?@?!? Which is awesome.
So. That's the cave I've been into lately LOL
