So, I love to paint my own clothes with lyrics or anything about my fav artists and, since I've heard habit, I've been wanting to paint that specific lyric in a tshirt.

Can we talk about how well the melody compliments the song in Habit?

Like, specifically in the chorus. That is some brilliant songwriting right there.

The melody in the chorus is quite repetitive, which might be a sign of laziness or something in some cases but here? It works beautifully. Because it mirrors the "habit" the song is about.

- "You're the habit that I can't break" is always aligned on the same melody. He always comes back to this melody to sing this line, just like he probably always goes back to the relationship the song is about. Even on the last line of the chorus, the line starts the same and only goes higher at the end, to break the monotony and sets up the verse.

- "You're the feeling I can't put down" implies some very intense feelings for the other person, way stronger than just habit, and the line is sung higher.

- "You're the high that I need right now" is the most intense line of the chorus to me. The whole chorus is very emotional, but this line has stakes because it sets up a time limit i.e. "right now". And, lo and behold, the melody goes higher again.

This makes A LOT of sense considering the glimpse of Louis's songwriting process we got yesterday (general topic first, then melody, then lyrics) and it's truly the best way to have connected melody & lyrics like this, and it's awesome.
