hey in the last video Anthony posted including Louis I couldn't help but notice how Louis immediately changed his whole mannerism and body language. Like just seconds ago he was sitting with his legs crossed and his arm was over the pillow again very comfortably but as soon as he turned to the camera he uncrossed his legs and started doing hand gestures and idk it just made me so sad. Maybe it doesn't even mean anything but I don't think it was a coincidence. He's probably so used to do it by now
Hi, anon.
I had similar thoughts when I saw the video, and we’re not alone in having been struck by the abrupt change.
While there might be an element of him not knowing quite what to do with himself on live stream—he seemed a little lost when he appeared on one with Steve during JHO promo? I can’t help but think of the stalker culture that Louis has been and is continuously subjected to in which he is constantly expected to… deliver? A particular gesture, a catchphrase… a performance of his relationship with his girlfriend… When has he been and is he ever allowed to just be without some demand, be it from ‘fans’ or ‘his team’, that he do this or that? I think there is an objectification and pressure - and coercion - for him to ‘do something’ from fans, and, always, always, for him to perform his heterosexuality.
And to me it doesn’t seem like a coincidence that the shift in mannerisms is to a kind of exaggerated laddishness. It’s not preposterous to think that there are certain expectations of behaviour among—in the first instance—mainly straight men who presume him straight as well? Alongside the lad and chav image forced on him in a stereotypical expression of heterosexuality and coarseness, meant to erase and torture him, as it goes against what is natural to him, forcing him to repress and hide, and put on an act, which is taxing and exhausting. He has been dealing with this for years, being worn down and thin. And wherever he goes he has to keep up a farce of fatherhood… I can’t begin to imagine how stressful and isolating that must be.
When he isn’t watching himself as much… in casual movements and moments… his softness and daintiness just shine through. It seems to me that is what is totally innate to him, present all the time, while the laddishness is something he has to turn on to counter it.
It is very sad. Louis shouldn’t be punished for being who he is. He should be free to be himself, exactly as he is. Being used to it doesn’t mean it doesn’t doesn’t hurt him. :(
