Allen Ginsberg, Peter Orlovsky (front), Louis Cartwright, Herbert Huncke, & William S Burroughs, Spring 1975. Allen and Peter had just moved into 437 East 12th Street near Avenue A in the Lower East Side, where they would stay another 21 years.  Burroughs had just returned from living abroad since 1953 and would soon be living in the “Bunker.” Herbert and Louis remained longtime companions as Louis’  life slowly unraveled till his death by stabbing on a nearby street in 1994.
