Nijmegen Bridge, Louise Scott

A fondness for Holland, my army roots, and the historical significance of this beautiful bridge were reason enough for me to produce this work. Today's aerial activities of the seagulls are echoes of past military movements. The bridge over the River Waal at Nijmegen in The Netherlands was packed with explosives by the Germans. The moment of destruction was chosen when British tanks were crossing during Operation Market Garden 1944 during an allied operation with the US 82nd Airborne Division. The detonation device failed.

Looking at you, Louise Scott

A rare hot sunny midsummer day in England at a country fete. I spot a youthful Dalmatian neglecting its nanny duties and partaking of an ice cream held by a four year old child. Another moment , camera at the ready, the Dalmatian's attention shifted lurching into a curiosity pose. I so wanted to paint with virtuosity in oils to capture his energy. He dips into your vision with beautiful dark, warming eyes. The oil painting on hardboard comes ready to hang with D rings and cord. It is framed with a simple 1.5 inch dark brown frame, giving a contemporary look and balancing the darks in the painting wonderfully(wood with plastic coating). It creates the illusion of the Dalmatian looking into your room through a window. Everyone who enters my space smiles when they see The Dalmatian.

Brecon Beacons Wales Ascent of Cribyn, Louise Scott

I have spent many hours traversing the Brecon Beacons National Park and here my spirit lives. I want to take you there and ascend Cribyn . I can not imagine a place more beautiful and compelling to spend time in. I have painted one of those rare moments when the elements are kind and the views spectacular. I chose to render the painting in oils and challenged myself to stay away from the brush and only use a palette knife. I love the upland colours and the knife gave me movement and allowed me to express my energy. The painting is on MDF board and is framed in a heavy dark brown. It has fixings and is ready to hang.

Snowdonia Tryfan, Louise Scott

Climbing in Wales, The Carneddau Range in Snowdon National Park my playground for the weekend. I lean on the exposed rock face and breath in the stunning vista with Tryfan's inspiring silhouette in line of sight. I chose to create a textural artwork with Tryfan and the immediate areas of rocks rising out of the painting using paper based mixed media on MDF wood.

Stones of Stenness Orkney, Louise Scott

After the tourists went home I came out to sketch. Alone, in this peaceful environment, surrounded by historical monoliths of stones, I set to work. I was lucky to spend a season working in the Orkney Isles off the north coast of Scotland. Night time was special and light bounced off different angles of the stones and the sea - this is how I would express the moment.
