shiku on blog of 2014 and present (1)

Looking at our blog over, we sucked.

No really, when we go back to the archives and see our older posts we’re like ‘dude wtf did we rly do dat’ and we laughed our butts off. Old roleplays were fun to read but kinda painful too, because we could’ve done better. Seriously. How hard was it to trim posts? Why does the dialogue look so chunky? Asides from that, we’re terrible mods. This is our third revival, I think? And I kinda feel bad that we’ve been going on and off without notice. Threads have been dropped because of that, which is a shame since some of the RPers aren’t here anymore. Plus we left those threads hanging, talk about rude. Yeah, we could say that we’re sorry but we were busy / going through a hard time but we didn’t, we just left on short notice and we're sorry for that. Sorry to our other followers, too. Sorry we didn’t even bother telling you guys we’d be on an indefinite hiatus for three times.

Yeah, there’s a lot of things we regret that we didn’t do, but for sure making this blog’s not one of them. I still enjoy coming here, reading and receiving asks, doing threads, watching the activities of other blogs (especially the Bio4 people now, gr8!). Overall too, I can say this blog’s helped me a lot in character building and writing. I’m glad that Tea’s here with me too and still here, even though she’s drowning in work (and in FE:if and Pokemon Go). I’m still happy we chose Wickebine, I’m still happy that even though this fandom’s small there’s still some wandering anons around, and I’m still happy to be in this community.

Oh, regarding the blog crossing over, I’m still thinking about it - but for now I’m great where I am.

tea on blog aesthetic

it's kinda underwhelming that i'll be talking about aesthetic while shiku just talked about something so serious but oh well, i'll revisit that another date (゜▽゜;)

so i basically handle the blog's theme + pages. first thing i'm after? readability. i don't know about others, but my priority is that everything should be easy to read and pleasing to the eyes, not only for me + shiku but also for visitors/readers. how are you supposed to read asks/threads when the text's damn small and narrow? font + font size come into play here, that's why as much as possible i choose a theme that allows flexibility with those factors so everything's easy to fix if needed or i could just alter the coding. but another factor that comes along with readability is the font color too - which I prefer to be black or white, but overall it depends on the whole theme itself. in general i'd prefer a colorful blog, but since we have the general mood of 'dark bio laboratory area' going on, color's gonna range from mostly dark ones.

anyway, if i've got that readability concern finished, that also means i've solved my second concern, the theme layout itself. both shiku and i agree that one column layouts are best - we've tried the two column ones and boy, was that confusing. preferably, the post sizes are huge too, say 500 to maximize space. wickebine's a talkative gal, so we need all the space we need, lol. plus, threads look good that way (or maybe it's just me). the layout should be nothing too fancy, either - since we're mostly text, i don't think it's necessary to have a fancy theme. the focus here is the content anyway so if possible, infinite scrolling is a bonus (then again, loading times).

with regards to our current theme, i think everything's okay. i'm honestly still a bit tacky on the text, but it's still readable so i think that's fine. main colors for this theme are brown, cream, and green. brown and cream since these are the colors associated with wickebine's outfit + hair. green for links that when are hovered on turn to red, which follows our headcanon that wickebine had green eyes before she got experimented on. yes, i actually think about that stuff lol ∠( ᐛ 」∠)＿

simple, readable - that's all there is to it. i think i keep it that way since i just like looking at things being neat and tidy and shiku agrees with it too. but it's kinda ironic, since wickebine's such a disorganized wreck (ﾟ⊿ﾟ)
