what i will say is that love 2000 made me think about how some stories require a type of main character to get the story going. what kind of woman would not shy away after finding out the guy is a foreign assassin/terrorist? in this case rieru was a workaholic who was holding her family together by the bootstraps, having to watch her sister be mistreated and pimped out by her bf to pay off his debts, a cheating father who ruined the last years of her mother before she died. she was also very curious and empathetic, maybe too much, but mostly she was alone and lonely and unfulfilled. long before she knew who yuri was we already knew she wouldn't react "appropriately" to it, whatever that means. she's the archetype of the girl who follows a vampire/werewolf/monster into another world and doesn't look back.

the common problem with characters in horror movies isn't that they go down to the basement or go out to look for the noise or look under the bed, it's that not every person would do those things.
