Playing The World
Dear Ms. Schubert, do you remember playing The World? A cruel and evil world lurking beneath our beds? It had four wheels and a steel eye. It spoke to us with a whirr of words and its syntax was made of metal. Once I beat it to death. It moaned, begged for forgiveness, but I killed it anyway. All this happened in the absence of history, while my nanny prepared the fall of Rome for our mid-morning snack in the kitchen.
