Ok, I’m about 8 years late to this conversation BUT
I know Love, Simon gets a lot of criticism for being made “for the straights” but I grew up being queer in a pretty conservative area in a pretty religious family and I remember seeing just the preview for that movie and thinking like, Oh. You can love someone of the same gender out loud like that? You can write a romance that’s centered on a queer couple like that? And I think that’s really cool. It was accessible and that does require some dilution of its message, but I do think Love, Simon will always hold a special spot in my heart.
