Lost Rewatch: 2x09 What Kate Did

Ah yes, the episode which properly introduces the worst love triangle I have ever seen. So you can just tell that this episode is going to be wonderful

And nothing that has happened to him since would have changed Sawyer’s feelings towards Kate specifically

Uggghhh... It’s going to get worse, isn’t it?

So, what’s up with this horse? Where did it come from? I mean, all the farm animals have seemed to come from Mikhail, but you’d think that he’d notice a horse escaping, wouldn’t you?

Like, of all the ‘animals representing past trauma’ this show does, this one by far makes the least sense

The scene where Kate tells her mother what she did and starts going on the run just proves how wasted Evangeline Lilly was in this show

Yeah, Eko, I get where you’re coming from, but it is definitely for the best if Ana Lucia doesn’t go to Shannon’s funeral

Okay, so we find out at the end of the episode that Wayne isn’t possessing Sawyer. So what’s with the neck grabbing and ‘WhY dId YoU kILL mE??’

Aw, Jin getting his handcuff removed and immediately showing his new friend Michael 😊

Oooh look, Michael bringing up the blast doors, nice bit of foreshadowing there

‘I’m sorry I’m not as good as you’??? Uh, honestly, if you objectively look at Jack’s actions up to this point compared to yours, you are probably the better person here, Kate

Oh, wonderful, Jack and Kate’s first kiss. Real romantic, that one

Locke says that everyone is on a rota for pushing the button, but we only see the same, like, five characters down here at any point

Jesus, the Marshall is a prick. Why are you gloating, asshole? She hasn’t done anything to piss you off, yet!

Kate says that Wayne ‘never touched [her]’... so, does what we saw at the start of the episode just not count?

Cool scene with Eko and Locke, and nice story, but it really was unnecessary, wasn’t it? Just say ‘I found the missing frames to your video’

Also, why were these specific frames cut out? All it amounts to is ‘Don’t use the computer for anything else’, which they don’t think they can do, given that they can’t type anything until the alarm sounds

So, Kate’s dad didn’t tell her that Wayne was her biological father because he knew that she’d kill him. Why? As the Marshall said, she had no record of criminal activity

Also, if you had just told her, surely she would be less likely to go off the rails than when she finds out herself, which was obviously going to happen

Oh, so Kate likes Sawyer now? Uh, why? Again, the last thing that happened to them was Sawyer outing her as a fugitive. She seemed pretty pissed about that at the time

Also wow, if this isn’t a short summary of this love triangle from here on out: Kate kisses Jack, looks confused, runs off to find Sawyer and confess feelings for him. Ugghhh

‘Are you going to try to convince me that everyone here doesn't hate me?’  ’Only if you're going to try to convince me that every woman in the world's not crazy.’ Har Har. Except honestly? The only two women I would describe as ‘crazy’ in any sense are the woman you are currently talking to and the one you just made out with

Thing this show doesn’t explain #6: Who was talking to Michael through the computer? Was it the Others? Was it actually Walt? We never get confirmation either way

Also what a coincidence that whoever it is starts talking to Michael at the exact same moment Locke is being told not to talk to anyone on the computer

Overall Review:

On the flashback side of things, Kate’s story is marginally more interesting than normal. On the island side of thing... goddddd nooooo

Overall Rating: 3.4/10

And from here on out, I shall be annoyed whenever Jack or Kate are on screen. Not Sawyer, cause he’s actually an interesting character

this card is kind of sort of asking you to say fuck it, you know? sometimes, when things don’t go the way we expect them to, such as with the guy u like, we feel like we’re in danger or we did something wrong. that’s usually not the case! this card asks us to get back in touch with the ‘wild’ parts of ourselves, whatever that means for you. maybe it means getting active, going on trips, dedicating more time to our hobbies, etc. don’t cling so much to the way things “should” be, if that makes sense!

this card calls for us to wake up a little bit. it asks us to take stock of ourselves and realize that if we haven’t been living up to our full potential, we should change that. if working things out with this one guy is holding you back, this card is a wake up call--maybe not to move on or cut him off, but to explore other options or get back in touch with yourself. it’s a good card; i think it speaks to progress and enlightenment, but it asks you to open your eyes.

okay the love triangle from hell was of course the love triangle from hell, but I do have to say I like that it always like...made sense why kate was with sawyer, whenever she was.  it fit kate’s character, at least imo. i understand why she was attracted to sawyer, I understand that she loved him, even if she knew they would never work, even if a part of her hated herself for loving him, and I love that it was always pretty clear that she was going to end up with Jack. I never felt like it was really a competition, just a journey from sawyer to jack.

i feel like usually love triangles are trying to keep you guessing, they have the girl go back and forth between two men just to drive the audience crazy and she picks and chooses based on whoever made the most recent grand gesture or whatever, and when she “picks” someone, she gives herself fully to that person so that the audience is left wondering “will she change her mind? when will she realize she’s meant to be with X” but with Kate, we always knew it was Jack.  Kate says it herself - “I have always been with you.”  When they’re in tough situations, Kate looks to Jack, not Sawyer, and that’s most clear on the docks.  Kate looks right past Sawyer at Jack.  She loves Sawyer, yes, but he was always a step along a path.  I’m at least grateful for the complexity of the love triangle, even if I wish we could have avoided it altogether and given Kate some crucial character development that didn’t revolve around men and all that good stuff we’re always chatting about on here.  But I do have to give the Love Triangle From Hell that one bit of credit where I feel it is due...both relationships felt so genuine.  Even though we always knew she was going to end up with Jack, I never doubted that her love for Sawyer was real, just not what was good for either one of them.

So i finally for a month and a few days chosen Lincoln and decided to go to Mathias's place and in the story it tells you to idk let Matthias spend time with you in the bedroom and i was to scared to choose it sooo much different choices 💀
