Jesus stands at the door + knocks. i agree. but there's more. The Bible has clear statements on certain things: stealing, murder, lying. It’s easy to make decisions on something when the Bible specifically addresses it. It’s not so easy when there’s no wording. People try to make their own lists of dos and donts as a solution but times change, cultures change. The Early Church struggled with this too. Eating Meat was considered a sin in some contexts, at least to the Jews. Then there were arguments over which holidays to celebrate & when to observe the Sabbath. Jews & Gentiles were divided on these non-addressed issues. So Paul addressed this in today’s passage. Paul makes it very clear that each person will answer for THEIR actions before God. Paul is not saying “don’t judge me” as in “ignore my sin”. He’s saying don’t condemn or criticize others when their opinions are different than yours. We’re responsible for each other & for our relationship to God. So, Instead of judging others, respect, honor & support each other’s convictions. Be true to your convictions regardless of what others are doing. In other words, Don’t let peer pressure pressure you into compromising your beliefs. As a Christian, My priority should be: OTHERS FIRST. Don’t let your convictions cause physical or spiritual harm to others. Don’t elevate your opinions over relationships! If being right is more important than a relationship, you are NOT exhibiting Christ Love. Therefore, Ask yourself: will this hinder my ability to witness? Will this action draw or push others away from Christ? The Kingdom of God is about having right relationships w/ each other & God, not the right rules or rituals. Make EVERY effort then to promote Peace, Joy, & BUILDING EACH OTHER UP! Don’t break fellowship over preference or tradition. Never let your choice matter more than the freedom of others. If your choice causes someone else to sin, that choice was WRONG! In fact, Keep it between you and God instead of trying to force your opinion on everything/one. Be careful that your decisions and choices don’t destroy your testimony or YOUR relationship with God. Here are some questions to ask yourself when you encounter gray areas.
