I don’t just love this album because my URL is a song on it, it’s honestly one of the best debut records I’ve ever heard, and the best from a 16-year old. Lorde was 16 when she wrote these songs! I still find that incredible. There’s quite a teenage vulnerability on the record that touched a new nerve for me as someone who has just moved away from home when it came out, and I will always cherish it for the amazing memories I have attached to it. I think lyrically, some of the lines fall flat, but for the most part, there’s a lot of genius to be found on it, and for the age she wrote these tracks, I wouldn’t expect different. I am excited to see how she’s matured with the new record soon, but even if she never put out another song in her life, I could live happy knowing this record was the only thing we’d ever get, since it’s just that good.

Another stunning debut. The most amazing thing about Night Time, My Time is that it was one of those records truly worth waiting for. I expected Sky to drop a pop-banger record, and instead I got a grungy, noisy, indie rock record that takes an emotional trip from the depths of despair all the way up to the pinnacle of ecstasy, and back around to an almost violent anger, and it couldn’t have worked more perfectly. She feels real, and the delirium of angsty truthfulness on the tracks feels relatable and descriptive of a lot of feelings and emotions we’re taught to be afraid to say out loud. I think she needs to prove herself with Masochism to cement NTMT as a jewel in the zeitgeist, but I personally already place it there. (I don’t own many new vinyls, but I spin NTMT all the time to this day.)

This is what happens when you turn on the Bossa Nova beat on an onine drum machine. Just a LIVE ditty with the most simple chords ever. I usually run away from very simple structures but this one seemed to captivate me at east for the length of time it took to record this. Take number 3. It is ok.
