For the fic writer end of year asks: 2, 14, 28
Thank you so much for asking!! <3
2. A piece you're proud of and why
I didn't post all that much in 2025, but I think my favourite two pieces were the sixth oneshot of And Beauty There Echoes the Speck of Our Souls (hospital hurt/comfort reversal with Eve as the injured party is something I've wanted since the initial 'Suki hospitalised in June 2023' scenes, and I ended up liking the way it turned out), and the seventh in In Spite of the Uneven Odds, Beauty Lifts from the Earth, which was basically a collection of missing scenes from Suki and Eve's first two years as an out couple, all centred around conversations in bed. I was quite proud of it anyway, but I received some of the loveliest comments ever on it that made me feel quite proud of myself. Two of them made reference to one of my personal favourite lines, which is always a special moment when you know it's resonated the way you hoped it would!
For a moment, Suki’s eyes flutter; they’re glazed and uncomprehending when they first flicker open. Eve reaches out for her at once, running a thumb gently over the apple of her cheek. She needs Suki to see her first. She needs Suki’s first understanding of the world to be that she is still in it, that her love for a woman hasn’t led her to disaster once more. She’d drifted in and out of consciousness all night; Eve isn’t sure how much of it she knows is reality and how much she believes to be a dream.
Yes, that is more hospital angst. At this point, the Panesar-Unwin-Gulati-Nandra-Harts should just buy a wing in Walford General for how often they use it!
14. Something new you tried this year.
Erm...next question. xD Those who have followed me long enough in different fandoms know I basically just churn out no-nonsense fluff and not much else.
28. A song that relates to one of your creations.
We Said Goodbye, But Our Hearts Did Not Hear started out as a speculation fic based on the spoilers of November 2023 ("Suki begs Eve to start a new life with her--will she agree?") that ended up being just canon-divergent by the time I'd finished, whoops.
It had two different song lyric WIP titles as I was writing which I was struggling to choose between because neither were quite right, but then one day, not long before it was ready to post, I was listening to my The Colour of My Love CD as I was driving (long live physical media!!!!), and Only One Road played and I was like, *THIS WHOLE SONG IS THIS FIC!!* So the other two WIP titles were immediately discarded, and here we are. The anthem for the fic. (Although in general the lyrics give me all the Sukeve feels.)
