[ID: a digital drawing of lucretia from the adventure zone. she is a dark-skinned woman with pale hair and heterochromatic eyes. she’s wearing a black cloak that blends her into the background of the image and a pale moon hangs in the air above her.]
Hurley recognized Sloane, of course, even without her mask. Unlike everyone else in Goldcliff, Hurley had made the connection between the waterfall of dark hair that followed the legendary thief The Raven and the legendary racer The Raven easily; she’d gone a step further and connected those to the half-elf who would occasionally sit in the Fantasy Starbucks dining area a few doors down from the militia’s office, watching the crowds, specifically when both of the Ravens were quiet. And it didn’t hurt that she’d seen Sloane, just Sloane, quiet and close and maskless, more than a few times now.
But she’d never expected to see Sloane outside of Goldcliff, let alone on one of the many trains running to Neverwinter’s main train hub for the Candlenights season. Sloane hadn’t seemed to notice her, yet, even though they were sitting right across from one another -- her eyes were focused on a book, ears twitching -- allowing Hurley a few moments to just... look. The way Sloane always just looked at the crowds and the militia office and the birds that always gathered around their garage.
Hurley was sure her cheeks were on fire, but everyone was so preoccupied with themselves and their travels and gifts that nobody noticed. She pulled the hood of her jacket up over her face, trying to figure out what to do. Was she supposed to do anything? They’d agreed, so far, to keep public contact to a minimum so they could set up a proper introduction, but Hurley didn’t recognize anyone in the train car as being from Goldcliff, so did the rules apply? Would Sloane want to see her? Had Sloane known she was traveling? Hurley usually mentioned when she was leaving, so she probably did know, but did that mean this was on purpose? Or had Sloane tried to pick a train she didn’t think Hurley would be on...? Hurley’s original train from Rockport had gotten canceled when it was discovered that it was late because it no longer existed.
Fuck, she wanted to at least go say hi to her or something.
Hurley pulled her hood back down when she didn’t feel as bright red, settling her feelings in her chest with a deep breath. She started to stand and was knocked back in her seat by the train rattling to a stop. People were moving, trading places, getting luggage, calling out, and Sloane was hidden from view. Dammit, she shouldn’t have waited so long to --
“May I have this seat, ma’am?”
It was a young boy, with big round glasses and curly hair, smiling with one tooth missing. A fancy lad, some might’ve said. He had a single bag, was probably about Hurley’s height, and she realized in a heartbeat that she wasn’t going to get a better chance. “Sure,” she said, grinning and standing up.
“Thank you!” he said, and as Hurley turned around she could’ve sworn he winked.
The car was mostly settled by now. There was a seat open next to Sloane, but Hurley opted to take the standing room instead, one hand shoved in her jacket pocket and the other wrapped around the pole to hide the fact that she was shaking. Sloane was still reading her book. This was not working.
Hurley sneezed.
Sloane finally looked up, a quick “blessings --” passing her lips before they locked eyes. Hurley’s grin turned from triumphant to shy, her cheeks and ears flaring even brighter, and Sloane got that look in her eye, the one that she gave Hurley when they were together and alone and all she wanted to do was hug Hurley until the sun came up.
“Hey,” Hurley said.
“Hey yourself,” Sloane said. “Thought you’d be in Neverwinter by now.”
“Train troubles.”
Sloane’s grin faded a little, and Hurley swore she could feel Sloane’s cheeks heat up as she looked just away and said, “So, um, this seat’s open, if you...”
A hint well taken. Hurley plopped into the seat next to Sloane, leaning on her without a second thought. She felt Sloane’s arm curl around her shoulders and closed her eyes to preserve the moment. Not the conversation she’d meant to have, but if she was trading conversation for real physical contact, then that was fine. They talked all the time. Rarely could they just... exist in the daylight like this.
The train rolled on. They didn’t say much; Sloane asked where Hurley was headed, Hurley asked where Sloane was headed, they joked about the missing train, but the hug was enough for them.
Sloane’s stop came first. She was reluctant to pull away, but Hurley assured her that Candlenights wasn’t that long, she’d see her again.
Despite her own words, it stung a little when Sloane pulled away. She tried to ignore it. Hurley stood to move somewhere closer to the door she’d be getting out of, and for the briefest moment, there were lips on hers and a kiss stole her breath away.
Sloane waved as she left, her shoulders shaking but her smile shining. Hurley felt herself laugh. A master thief, she thought.
The train’s doors closed. Hurley grabbed the pole by her first seat to stop from falling down. The boy chuckled, but it didn’t seem to be directed at her.

9:a moment that made you cry
I cried a lot in this podcast. I really did. I cried I believe in almost every arc after petals to the metal.
One big moment that made me sob was when Davenport was forgetting, and my roommate word for word quoted the entire scene without missing a beat my first listen through.
