Today is the anniversary of its last update, and while that may seem like I’m trying to be shady I’m actually just jumping on any excuse to celebrate this lovely piece and its divine creator.

So take a moment today to appreciate this incredible work, celebrate all the PW goodies its given us, flood my feed with all your fave moments or artwork etc. from this wonderful story, and above all send its fab author @lovelyserpentines some love whether literally in her good ole asks or figuratively out into the universe.

☕️ + nina-joy dynamic

in terms of what it adds to the show, I'm actually really glad they did it. I think if the show was made a little later, they might've been more tempted to have them get along in spite of everything as not to have them appear 'catty' but I think it added a lot to both characters.

the key thing for me is that it's so consistently two sided. nina side eyed her and closed ranks the second she moved back to the house, and things could've gone down so differently if nina had made any attempt to be her friend at the beginning of s2, instead of immediately deciding she was a threat. treating her like that made joy worse, because for one it so massively contributed to her feeling left out or that she'd been replaced, and two I just don't think joy would've tried to date fabian so hard if his girlfriend was remotely nice to her. in fact, joy doesn't even really start to pursue him until after they broke up. the whole situation is so constantly made worse by how possessive nina was over fabian without trying to get back with him. like she'd sit there and literally voice her anger at fabian spending time with his friend when that's all she technically was to him. like it's perfectly fine to be mad at a girl trying to steal your boyfriend, but he was not her boyfriend??

I think that the whole situation is just so sad because it was the adults that did this to them. joy got told she was special and taken away. and by the time they brought her back, someone had taken her room, her friends, the guy she liked and on top of that it turned out that she was actually the special one. joy becoming so cruel to nina and endlessly chasing fabian despite his disinterest is so painful to watch because you know it's because of how bad she's hurting. she builds nina up to be a monument of everything that's wrong in her life and effectively swings a bat at it. and they show you that fabian does change the way he behaves around her around nina so it's not like it doesn't even make sense. but that article was so horrid that the show sometimes forces you to take nina's side and I think the whole point to me is that no one's right and they're both wrong and their lives were meddled in by people who had no regard for the consequences and it just tells you so much about both characters. at the end of it all, they grow and develop by learning mutual respect for each other and I quite like that as an ending

Two days. Two days after Amber gave the breakup news, two days of incredibly uncomfortable Sibuna meetings, two days of Eddie blatantly lying to himself that ending their whole tryst wasn’t a big deal. Two days of all of that, and then Nina sent him to the clearing in the woods for a solo mission but showed up five minutes after he did. Two days, and she told him that waiting for things to cool down wasn’t cutting it for her. He took in her words slowly, but he took them in, and he took in the meeting place, and then he took her in.

Her last first day of high school sits oddly in the pit of her stomach.

By the time Gina’s Uber drops her off outside the Caswell-Porter(?) residence, it is well into the late afternoon and her head feels heavy with too many overdue realizations.

After Mr. Mazzara delivers the news of the cast getting benched for a week, Gina is more than ready to curl up on the couch and knit for a few hours. Ashlyn has Big Red upstairs for some Career Day-adjacent thing, and Gina has no plans to interrupt their coupley evening, so she settles with her legs crossed in a bathrobe, full pajamas, and warm socks and gets to knitting.

Her last day in America shouldn’t be a memorable one.

Nina was seriously wondering why they even bothered sneaking up to the attic when Victor was home. She and Fabian could be geeking out over some ancient Egyptian artifact upstairs in Vera’s old bedroom, thrilled with their progress and excited to update their friends, and then it would all be ruined two seconds later by Victor showing up.

so things noticed: i haven't uploaded much in the past two years gkrlg. interesting to see the similar messy and tsbu ch6 openings, both of which were followed up w explanations afterward. the more humorous openings (03:00 and it's called "therapy") have more snapshot/dialogue intros, but everything else varies from one-liners to paragraphs. i didn't realize it split pretty evenly, but i am conscious of not beginning everything the exact same way. also kinda cool to see the hard part move up from the wips ask to the published ask

i didn’t wanna make a post about this but i thought you’d enjoy—i just showed my sister, who does not watch the show but knows i’m insane about portwell, the r*na vday scene so she understands just how bad it is. she was SO embarrassed and couldn’t handle the awkwardness. and r*nas really be out here using that scene to show their alleged superiority to portwell?? 🤡🚨

Please… I got second-hand embarrassment the first time I watched, and I still do till this day.

I would have thought they’d use idk maybe the car scene to compare to Portwell’s couch scene because Ricky was not even present during that conversation since his mind was literally elsewhere (on Nini) and there was definitely awkward tension since Ricky was keeping his distance from her after hearing her confession.

But that scene is also a blessing in a way because of the lines “Every girl likes a sweet gesture. I speak from experience” and “I think you’ll get yours too” which ended up foreshadowing Portwell in the end 💙💛
