based on a prompt i found on pinterest - eddie & patricia
“okay, where are all of my hoodies?” eddie questioned as he barged into patricia’s shared room.
“oh my god! do you know how to knock?” patricia argued back, startled.
“okay, whatever, i should have knocked” he replied, while sarcastically knocking on the already opened door. “but that’s besides the point. where the heck are all of my hoodies?”
“i don’t know what you’re talking about” patricia scoffed. “you’ve got loads, i bet they’ve been chucked all over your floor. fabian says even mick was tidier than you are!”
eddie rolled his eyes at that.
“i already flipped my room upside down looking for that stupid letter, so i know i haven’t got any hoodies in my room. i know this house is cursed but they haven’t magically disappeared, you’ve taken them all!” he said, as he poked an accusatory finger at her chest.
patricia crossed her arms defensively in response. “still have no idea what you’re on about, weasel. as if i’d wear anything that’s been on your sweaty self”.
eddie let out a smug laugh. at this point, he knew patricia wasn’t gaslighting him, but was just trying to keep all his hoodies for herself.
“oh yeah?” eddie smirked. “then why does your hoodie say ‘colorado state university’ on the front?” he asks, as he peels patricia’s arms away from their crossed position. “didn’t know you’d been to colorado, yacker.”
patricia’s shoulders dropped, as she knew she’d been caught.
“okay, fine…” she admitted. “but i didn’t mean to take them all, honest. i steal them after you wear them because they smell like you, and i just forgot to give the old ones back” she said, looking down at her feet in embarrassment.
eddie’s face dropped at that. he knew things had been tense since the term started, with the breakup and his sudden fascination with kt, but he had no idea patricia was taking it so hard.
—————————————————————————
the hoodie thing started at the end of last term when they realised eddie was going straight back to america, whilst patricia had to see her own family before she could catch a flight overseas.
others knew patricia as a stoic, no nonsense kind of girl, especially when it came to boys. but eddie saw a different side of her. it had taken a long time for patricia to open up fully to him, and when she fell, she fell hard. they had both put in months of work to get into the position they were in before the summer, and patricia was afraid that a couple weeks apart would start tearing down the foundation of trust they had built together. she didn’t want to admit it, but she was dreading being away from him for so long.
the night before he left, the couple were laying in eddie’s bed, enjoying their final few hours together. fabian and nina were spending the night at uncle abe’s, so the empty room meant patricia could be vulnerable with eddie in a way she wasn’t with anyone else.
the laptop sat in front of them, playing some thriller movie patricia loved that they’d seen a thousand times before. patricia’s head was laying comfortably on eddie’s chest as he rested his hand atop her head, cradling her against him. his eyes were drooping, and he was just about to fall asleep when he suddenly heard patricia mumble into the thick fabric of his hoodie.
“you smell really nice” she muttered.
“hmm?” eddie questioned, half asleep.
patricia chuckled slightly. “i said, you smell really nice.”
eddie was more awake now, brushing his fingers through her hair lightly.
“well thanks, yacker” he replied with a smile. “it’s that nice bottle my dad gave me. from christmas, remember?”
patricia nodded in reply, before nuzzling her cheek further into her chest.
“don’t take this the wrong way, but i’m really gonna miss you” patricia admitted, purposefully facing away from him.
eddie laughed quietly at that. “why would i take that the wrong way?”
“because your ego is bigger than your massive head” patricia snapped back, laughing as well.
eddie rolled his eyes at her snarky comeback, knowing she was using jokes to overshadow her true feelings. she had learned to be more open with him, but relationships were still new to her, and the idea of being so honest with eddie still made her head spin.
“i’m gonna miss you too, yacker” eddie replied, placing a soft kiss on her head.
“we’ve just been spending so much time together,” patricia continued, “and it’s gonna be weird knowing you’re not around all the time.”
“i get that” eddie replied, racking his brain for ideas on how to comfort her over the summer. besides the obvious texting and facetimes, he wasn’t sure what else to do.
“i know!” eddie stated, suddenly remembering the time the students at anubis house sat around the living room after their most recent prom having a little after party. patricia got cold in her dress but was enjoying herself too much to go upstairs and get changed. eddie then spotted his hoodie he’d thrown over the couch earlier that day, and helped her put it on without ruining the hairstyle amber undoubtedly spent ages doing. eddie’s heart swelled at the image of his girl in his hoodie, leaning against his shoulder as she laughed and joked along with her friends.
eddie initially hated the idea of coming to boarding school in the uk, but he’d do the entire year a million times over as long as it lead him to her every time.
he sat both of them up in his bed as he shrugged his hoodie off and handed it to her.
“take this with you” he said, sincerely. “it has my nicest cologne on it, so when you wear it, i won’t feel so far away”.
patricia smiled at the gesture. “i mean, it’s not as high end as any of my jumpers,” she joked, “but i’ll take it. thank you.”
“anytime” he responded, pulling her back into his chest as they slowly dozed off, the scent of his fanciest spray swirling around her.
—————————————————————————
“oh…” eddie said quietly, now full of guilt.
“it’s whatever, you can have them all back” patricia told him, as she started pulling hangers out of her wardrobe.
“no, no, no!” eddie rushed towards her, hanging his hoodies back into her wardrobe. “you can keep them, it’s fine. i can buy some more, and they look better on you than they ever did on me anyway” he said, cheekily.
patricia hated how those comments still got to her after everything. if any other boy had said it, she would’ve gagged in their face and marched away. but with him, it just made her heart jump and her cheeks flush.
“listen, yacker…” eddie started cautiously, now looking at the ground himself. “i’ve been thinking…”
“oh, that’s never good” she interrupted.
“yeah, whatever” eddie smirked. “i was thinking, you know, about us.”
“oh…” she replied, nervously. if this was him breaking things off for good, admitting he liked someone else and never wanted to be with her again, she wasn’t ready to hear it.
“i was thinking, and you were right. i didn’t communicate enough when i was in america, and i’m sorry i made you spiral and start thinking the worst of me. but you have to understand, i was never doing it to you on purpose. i had just found out i was the osirian, and then nina told me we had to be kept apart. honestly it freaked me out a lot. i was supposed to protect her, and now i’m finding out we can barely be in the same room together? i was scared, and so i isolated myself from everyone besides her. i should have told you about it, about the letter, about everything, but i promised to stick by her no matter what. i guess i momentarily forgot about the other girl i promised to stick by.” eddie scratched the back of his neck awkwardly after his rant, showing how guilty he felt.
it hurt patricia to hear that she’d been forgotten about. but she understood, really. nina had come out of nowhere and became an invaluable friend to them all in no time. she understood how he’d forgotten about her while worrying about nina, because she had done the same to him last year. every time eddie and patricia were on good terms, a new sibuna task whisked her away and occupied her mind so much that she’d forgotten about him sometimes. if he could forgive her for that, she could forgive him for this.
“eddie, it’s fine, i get it” she replied, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
eddie finally picked his head up to look her in the eyes as relief washed over his face.
“okay, good” he breathed. “because i was also thinking that now that we both know nina’s safe, it’s time we start again.”
“really?” patricia asked. she tried to mask her enthusiasm, but eddie caught the way her eyes widened with excitement.
“yeah! fresh start. no secrets, no fights, no chosen one. just you and me, like we were before, yeah? maybe i can steal my dad’s car for the night, drive us down to the beach and we can talk more there. it might be windy, so it gives you an excuse to wear my hoodie again” he said, with a wink.
“oh, i don’t know” she replied, sarcastically. “i was only wearing it because all my nice clothes are in the wash, you wouldn’t catch me dead in public wearing any of your things.”
“yeah, whatever yacker” eddie smirked, as he backed out of her room. “tomorrow night, after lights out?”
“you should be so lucky” she giggled.
eddie just rolled his eyes and shook his head playfully as he finally walked out of her room.
a few minutes later, joy walked in to an excessively smiley patricia, who was busy hanging up new photos on her wall.
“oh god,” joy playfully groaned, “what have i missed?”
the two girls laughed as they sat on patricias bed, ready for a debrief.
—————————————————————————
eddie couldn’t help but smile as patricia slid into the passenger seat of his dad’s sleek black porsche, wearing one of eddie’s favourite hoodies.
“ready to go, yacker?” he asked, as he started pulling out of his dad’s parking space.
“as i’ll ever be” she replied, grinning to herself as she looked out the window, watching the school building slowly pass by as eddie started driving towards the beach.
not entirely sure how i feel about this one but it’s been in my drafts for ages so thought i’d post it anyway
This secret santa is for @ambermillingtonswife who I thank for being so understanding about their assigned partner dropping out unexpectedly. Sorry it's so short!
“Would you slow down?” Patricia complained from behind him for the second time.
Eddie turned to look at her, still walking backwards. She was sweating, and had taken off her leather jacket to tie it around her waist. “Sorry, sorry. It’s just a little further I promise.” Patricia’s annoyed look was about as charming as the first time he’d seen it, when he was once passed out on the sofa in the drama department at Anubis.
“You know Eddie, normally when you plan on making someone walk up a mountain, you tell them to wear appropriate clothes.” Patricia added, but she caught up to him, and the two continued to walk the trail side by side.
“It’s not up a mountain, it’s just a little hike.” Eddie corrected with an amused smile. “Seriously the view is to die for.”
“Oh good.” Patricia said flatly. “When we get to the top, I’ll push you off, and you can look at the pretty view on the way down.”
Eddie laughed. “You’ll forgive me.” He said. “Once we get up there. We’re only about two minutes away.”
“You said that eight minutes ago!” Patricia complained.
“Well in my defense, normally I’d be at the top by now.” Eddie said, and Patricia lightly smacked him on the shoulder. He held up his hands in mock surrender. “Sorry! I promise you get to pick the next date. We can go to a rock concert, or an abstract art museum, or whatever you want.”
That seemed to placate her, because she was silent for the next minute. Birds chirped from the trees, and there was the faint sound of wind moving through the leaves.
“I can’t believe you don’t like hiking.” Eddie commented. “Seriously, I swear I thought this would be a slam dunk. We used to hang out in the woods all the time at Anubis, it was our place.”
“The old willow tree is a lot different from an uphill walk for almost an hour.” Patricia panted. “Especially wearing leather and long pants.”
“You’ll forgive me.” Eddie repeated with a growing smile. “We’re here.”
The view really was gorgeous. The vast spread of trees all around them, the even taller mountain in the distance, the wide lake at the bottom.
“Okay. I’m impressed.” Patricia admitted. “This is pretty. And almost worth it.”
“Patricia.” Eddie said from behind her. Patricia turned. Eddie was kneeling on the ground, a small box in his hands. “Patricia Maria Williamson-”
“Eddie you asshole!” Patricia exclaimed. Eddie laughed, opening the box to reveal a ring with a dark gemstone. “Eddie you absolute asshole are you serious?!”
“Patricia, will you marry me?” Eddie questioned.
“You’re such a jerk!” She continued. “Oh my God. You made me walk up a mountain and complain the whole time-you asshole of course I’ll marry you.”
“Only you could accept a proposal by calling me an asshole three times.” Eddie laughed again, taking the ring from the box and slipping it onto Patricia’s finger. Against all her other rings, the gemstone seemed to stand out even more.
“It’s so pretty.” Patricia said, twisting the ring a little as she admired it. “I can’t believe you Eddie.”
“Okay, you can push me off now.” Eddie smiled charmingly. Patricia kneeled down and pulled him in for a kiss.
“You really are a jerk.” She repeated again as she pulled away. “A massive one. And I will get you back for this.”
“I’d expect no less from you Yacker.” Eddie promised. “I’m sure you’ll make me live to rue the day I proposed.”
“I will.” Patricia said firmly. “You’re stuck with me now, slimeball.” And she pulled him in to kiss him again.
Technically, when you think about it, Mick and Mara had the longest lasting relationship in HOA, lasting from mid s1 through to almost the end of s2. Sure, early on in s2, Mick left and their relationship went long distance and was barely featured on screen and while this was happening, Mara was developing feelings for Jerome and was emotionally cheating, and then just straight up cheating on Mick with him, but still.
And I think that the couple with the longest time together on screen, and relatively healthy at the time, is Peddie in S2. IIRC they get together fairly early on, and while they have some issues that they need to work through, they do work through them. I think they spend more time together in s2, then they do doing the will they won't they bullshit the writers are so fond of. And I would argue that second halfish of season 2 Peddie is proof that the writers can write a compelling couple that stays together and has interesting drama, without destroying said couple along the way.
