You know, one more thing:
“Because from my perspective, it is all about shipping. You seem to care more about who the character is willing to sleep with than any of their other traits they’ve shown thus far. Such as Yang’s protectiveness for her sister. Weiss commitment to her family’s honor. Ruby’s optimism. Jaune’s kindness. Blake’s idealism.”
This comment really bothered me, and I had trouble putting my finger on why. But then I realized.
We care very much about these traits. The characters are endearing at their best.
The problem is that even today LGBT people are often depicted as “butch” or “flaming” with nothing else in between. And while modern media includes a handful more characters that don’t fit into these stereotypes, we could use many more. Gay characters who can be honorable or scoundrels, protective or cowardly, optimistic or cynical, kind or cruel - gay characters that are PEOPLE, are still so very rare. Never mind gay people that go to space or travel fantasy worlds. Or slay monsters.
I admit I hoped that RT and crew would share a fraction of Remnant. Not because they were forced, but out of kindness.
And it's interesting that such a small, harmless act of kindness - when I've been assured so many times that sexuality doesn't matter - is so begrudged.
