Aug 25, 2018, So, how is Salman Khan as a teacher? A: He’s a hard taskmaster. He is so good in front of the camera that he makes everything look effortless. But I was not born into a film family. So, I learnt everything from Salman bhai. He said there won’t be body doubles for action sequences, there won’t be camera tricks to cover my poor dance steps. ‘It’s only you who has to shine,’ he told me. He expects me to carry his legacy forward. He said people might think it was easy for me to get a break because I’m married to Arpita (Salman’s sister). But he wanted me to prove them wrong with my performance. He also said that the audience takes a lot of hassles to come and watch a film, and I should always respect that. W: He is very strict. The first time I met him, he said that my training would start the next day and warned that I might feel so exhausted that I might even throw up. And I actually did! I was not allowed to leave until my trainer asked me to. Salman’s brother-in-law ever get to you? A: There is a certain amount of pressure, I can’t deny it. But more than that, there is a responsibility towards bhai’s fans. I have never taken it negatively. A film with two fresh actors in the lead would never get such traction if his name was not attached to it. So, doing justice to that attention is a huge responsibility.
We hear Salman is playing a cameo in the film. A: (Smiles and looks at Warina, who is also grinning) We haven’t decided anything about it yet. What kind of equation do you both share with Salman? W: For me, he is a real-life hero. My life has changed because of him. Getting such a huge opportunity for a person with a background like mine is a big deal. I’ll forever be grateful to him. A: I call him my mentor.
Do you ever go to Salman in case of a dispute? A: Salman bhai is good at breaking the ice, whenever needed. But if there is an issue, I’d rather go to Sohail bhai (Sohail Khan). Because he is more approachable? A: No, because Sohail bhai is married and Salman bhai is not (laughs).
