5 times Daniel claims to dislike the nickname "sugar," and 1 time he admits the truth
"Look, don't take this the wrong way, but you're just not important for this show. You're important for other shows, and other parts of the plan, but not this one, okay?" Daniel knew he was being blunt, but Jack had to stop getting in the way. He was distracting.
"C'mon sugar, don't be like that." Henley's eyes widened, along with Merritt's grin as he felt this ought to be entertaining.
Daniel felt his face heat up.
"What did you call me?"
"Sugar. Why, don't like it?"
"No, as a matter a fact, I do not," Daniel said, though it felt like a lie. It felt like a lie because of the way his heart twisted and his stomach fluttered and… also other things that he felt were not appropriate to talk about in this moment.
"Alright, alright," Jack said, putting his hands up. "I'll stay out of your way. For now."
They were building with legos. Remind Daniel why this was part of the plan?
The worst part is, they weren't organised at all. Not by colour or shape or anything, Jack was just following the image of their destination in Five Points and randomly taking legos out of the bin.
"You're not gonna organise those?" Daniel had asked.
"Ignore him, he's a little bit OCD," Henley dismissed.
"I don't have OCD. Liking things organised does not give me OCD."
"No, but your 'pre-show ritual' does," Henley said.
"That isn't… whatever."
"It'll look better scrambled together like this anyway," Jack said, holding up the base layer he'd put together. "Relax, sugar."
Again, Daniel felt his face warm up and his body tense up and his heart twist.
"Don't call me that," Daniel grumbled.
"Alright, whatever you say… sugar."
Jack was officially dead. The idea of that made Daniel so… devastated. He didn’t even know why, it’s not like they were close. He wouldn't let them get close.
It was time to film the announcement video, and Daniel felt on the brink of tears. He'd have to talk about Jack being gone. He knew he wasn't, but the idea of it. It hurt too much to even think about and he didn't even know why. It wasn't fair.
Henley and Jack finished setting up the camera and Jack made his way to the couch where Daniel was sitting. He took a seat next to him.
"You ready?" He asked.
"I think so," Daniel said, his voice quiet.
"Hey," Jack said, tilting his head for Daniel to look at him. They were awfully close, weren't they? "I'm still here. Don't get too torn up. You won't be legible."
"Intelligable," Daniel corrected. Jack just smiled. He took Daniel's hand.
"Good luck, sugar," He said before pressing a kiss to Daniel's hand. Daniel's heart stuttered and his eyes widened and he froze for a moment.
"Y-You know I hate it when you call me that," Daniel said. "I thought I made that clear."
"Yeah? That means you got no other problem with anything I just did."
"Why should I?" Daniel said, averting his gaze. His hand was still in Jack's.
"Guess you shouldn't," Jack said, squeezing Daniel's hand. "Guess I should get out of your shot, huh?"
"Probably a good idea," Daniel said, far too snarky for someone whose hand was still being held. Jack squeezed it one more time before getting up. Henley and Merritt took their seats beside Daniel.
"And we're rolling."
They hadn't seen Jack in days. It was all part of the plan, but Daniel didn't like it. He… missed Jack? Which was, frankly, ridiculous.
They had made their way to central park, ready to meet whoever was behind this.
But Henley checked the chains around the fence and spoke.
"It's locked."
A voice spoke up, approaching.
"Weren't you listening? Nothing’s ever locked."
Jack approached the fence and unlocked the gate. As soon as Daniel saw him, a small smile creeper up on his face.
"Well done Mr Wilder," Henley said, clapping. "Good work."
"You're a big boy now, Jack," Merritt said.
Daniel stayed silent.
Merritt and Henley walked in, followed by Daniel, who was stopped by Jack.
"C'mon, you miss me, sugar?" Jack teased. Daniel looked away, unable to wipe the smile from his face, caused by the man before him.
"No, of course not," Daniel said. Jack tilted Daniel’s face to look at him. "And don't-"
Jack pushed ahead, pressing his lips to Daniel's, just for a moment.
When he pulled away, Daniel's eyes were wide, staring.
"Fuck," Jack said. "Did I completely fuck that up?"
Daniel didn't say anything, just pulled Jack in for another kiss. He pulled Jack closer by his jacket and Jack combed his fingers through Daniel's hair.
"Hey lovebirds!" Merritt called, getting them to separate. "We're trying to find this damn tree, will you come help!"
Jack and Daniel exchanged smiles, Jack's wide and bright, Daniel's small and secretive, before joining the others.
“Oh, I’m sorry, did you think I was like those other girls?” Lula asked. “Oh, Jack,” she said, just loud enough for Daniel to hear, before walking off.
Even though Lula didn't know they were dating, Daniel still hated her. She walked off from Jack, letting Daniel approach him with no buffer.
“Okay, so there’s a marketplace down the street, and I’m meeting a man with a blue hat,” He said before noticing Jack’s face.
He was smiling… He was smiling? Lula wasn’t supposed to make Jack smile like that, Daniel was. That Lula girl was stealing Jack from him.
“He’ll get the stick to the right people and get us home,” Daniel said. “You go grab Merritt, okay? We have a lot to do,” He said. “And hey, put your belt on,” He said, trying to mask his gross jealousy.
“Oh, no, it’s not… she just took it off me…” Daniel put his hands up as to say he didn’t care, even though he really did. “It’s not, no, it’s not like that…” Jack said. He stepped closer. “Hey,” he said. “C'mon sugar, you know it's not like that."
"Don't call me that," Daniel said. Jack's face completely crumpled.
Jack had been calling Daniel sugar for a while now with no objections, but now…
"Baby," Jack tried instead, "You know I love you."
"Do I know that?"
"'C'mon," Jack said, pulling Daniel closer. "What do I gotta do to make it up to you?"
"Stop flirting with her," Daniel gritted.
"I'm not, she's flirting with me, I'm not flirting back," Jack said, somewhat defensively. "I belong to you."
"Damn right you do," Daniel muttered.
"There’s my man," Jack said. He kissed Daniel's forehead, having to get on his tiptoes to do so since they're about the same height.
"I love you too," Daniel added quietly. Jack smiled.
They were in a hotel room after London, on the outskirts of the city.
Jack had removed Daniel's outer layers, leaving him just in a t-shirt and jeans.
"Jack," Daniel chanted quietly. He was never too vocal.
"You gotta be patient with me sugar," Jack muttered into Daniel's ear. Daniel moaned.
"Then you can't be calling me that, it just makes me want you to fuck me more," He grumbled. Jack pulled away to look Daniel in the face, who immediately looked away, feeling embarrassed.
"Is that right?" Jack asked. He leaned back in toward Daniel's neck "You like it… sugar?" He asked, nipping at Daniel's neck. Daniel whined. "Have you… always liked it?"
"Hmmm, Jack," Daniel moaned as Jack began to palm at him.
"C'mon, sugar, answer me," Jack teased.
"Yes," Daniel gasped. "Yes, I… I've always liked it, please, just fuck me," He whined.
"Mhm," Jack hummed, "I will baby, don't you worry."
He pulled off Daniel's shirt.
"But like I said," Jack spoke, "You gotta be patient with me."
