In Quest of Shiva.
The most fearsome deity of the Indian culture. He is called Anaadi meaning he is beyond birth and death. He is immeasurable, bottomless and never-ending. He is Shiva, the most auspicious and preeminent of Shaivism (the oldest sect in India). He is the Creator, the Preserver, the Transformer, and the Destroyer. He is also known as ,Mahayogi, Pashupati, Nataraja, Bhairava, Vishwanath, Bhava, Bhole Nath. He unfolded himself as Pashupati during Indus Valley civilization and emerged as Rudra in vedic age. Beside India he is very popular across the globe mainly in Sri Lanka, Nepal and some pockets of South East Asia. Greeks worshipped him as Dynosieus. He forms the trinity (trimurti) with Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu (Brahma-Vishnu-Maheshwara). He is a champion of yoga, musing and arts. He singed Kamdeva trying to distract him while meditating. Interestingly, the panchakshari ( ॐ नमः शिवाय) was first mentioned in tamil epic.
I see Shiva as the divine power holding everything. Like a planet Earth holds whole landmass and waterbodies, in the same way Shiva too holds the Universe. Shiva is everywhere.
From past one year, i have been reading more on vedas and light and darkness of lord Shiva. The perusal of the year has somehow made the picture intelligible and as clear as bell. And also came across which still needs a lot research.
Recently, while trying to learn Shiva Strotam (tongue twister for me), i came across many videos most of them were really tickle pink. Being in a holy grail to know Shiva, a message popped up on whatsapp group linked to YouTube. It was sent by someone in plain clothes. Still, i gave a thought to gain access to link. Just in one GO, it gave me goose flesh. A real tickle pink. An engaging make up of strotam fused with pahadi leitmotif.
The sachem behind the jingle was local ‘Shimla’ hunk, my friend, Lalit Singh. I immediately called him. Before saluting i gave him an elated riot act. ‘You should have told me your tenderness for Shiva’ and he retorted ’Bhai, surprises are always ‘tickle-pink’. :) The song ‘Taantra’ is an invocation to Shiva where an ardent disciple, who have had enough of wonted viability. Like Shiva’s follower Ravana who said “When will I be happy?.” He too is seeking inner peace, want to walk through Himalayas and seeking a safe haven in Shiva’s abode.
In search of Shiva, he is meandering, singing and keeping his body and soul under the cloud of marijuana. Battling tirelessly with himself, he meets Shiva in the fullness of time. It describes the power, beauty and love of master and his follower.
Dear Lalit,
A great effort, my brother. i must speak it highly and thanks to you for escalating the merit of artistry of Himachal.
Keep Going. May Shiva help you prosper.
