omg. secretly?? i don’t know if i think secretly about much tbh but we haven’t spoken a lot, so i suppose its all a bit secret right now.

i secretly think you’re really great? edie is a blessing & is so so important & you’re a blessing for writing her & writing with me & also writing realistically with me. oh, i suppose this is a secret: i worried a little when i first learned of your existence ( that sounds funny... anyway... ) that you’d idealize jack too much & their relationship which had absolutely nothing to do with you. i was just assuming something about someone i didn’t even know which i’m not proud of, but it happens.

but you didn’t & angels sung. our first thread was so amazing. i really ought to go find it & throw it into my drafts which i cleaned out to start anew but it was such a good thread & i kinda wanna continue it if you’re cool with that. 

anyway, your writing is lovely on both accounts i follow. we could totally do a thing wherever tbh & i’d be happy to. i just... i’m so glad you’re back.

Ed had finally returned home after work, and was preparing himself for a well deserved shower.. Showers were always relaxing to him, the warm water relieved his muscles and soothed him wonderfully.. He would spend hours in the shower if given the opportunity. Often when taking one, he loses track of the time, and that ultimately results in him getting yelled at for using up all the hot water.

He turned the valve of the shower to turn it on, and to adjust the temperature, before quickly removing his clothes and jumping right in. Immediately he felt the weight of his day slide down and off his back, accompanied by the warm streams of water flowing out the shower head.

He lifted an arm to run fingers through his now soaked red hair, attempting to remove the dirt staining it... He closed his eyes.. It was as if he was in his own world, quietly drifting off as he began to hum a small tune to himself.. Though this was all rudely interrupted by the sound of the bathroom door swinging open.

Quickly Babe’s hands scrambled in search for the shower curtains, pulling them in front of him for cover.. A startled, but irritated expression graced his features as he narrowed his eyes at the woman who barged in.. “Y'know there’s a new thing called knocking, you should try it sometime.” He scolded, obviously flustered by the current situation, and sarcasm strongly decorating his impatient voice before he finally realized he was the one who invited her over..

“Next time just do me a favor and yell in.. Instead of barging in.. Yeah?” He scowled before shutting the shower off and reaching over to grab his towel, “Now get out so I can dress.. For Christ’s sakes, I’m indecent…”

Babe dug in his pocket only to pull out a small piece of paper with a number on it, he then remembered it was from a girl he met at a party that one day. She was cool and he had nothing to do that day, nowhere to be and nowhere to go, it wasn't a bad idea to call her up and get to know her better, after all, he had nothing better to do.. He picked up his homes phone and dialed the number on the paper, leaning on the table it rested on as it rang..

Finally he heard someone pick up, 'Hello..?' It was the girl he shared a smoke with, thankfully, it would've been pretty awkward had it been someone else.. "Oh hey, it's Edward, or.. Babe.. Whatever you prefer.." He gave a shrug as he used his shoulder to hold the phone and occupied his hands with putting some household items away..

"Yeah so I was just wonderin' if you wanted to go somewhere? Maybe get a drink or something.. I got a little spare time on my hands."

"That's the cheesiest pick up line I've ever heard!"

It had been just an act, indeed; that of the Dreamland Ballroom Host. It would have been far from Galway Morgan to flirt, let alone do so so gracefully; but it was, in a sense, part of his duties; to make the patrons feel welcomed, loved and at ease --- female patrons in particular. It may have sounded a bit off, but in truth, men did not take as kindly to the pet names he used religiously (darling, sweetheart, honey, lover, pet) and, perhaps more importantly; when the ladies felt happy and comfortable, well, so did the men.

Some may have interpreted it as more than it meant, though, on occasion. As flirtatious as he was, smug smirk on his face as he murmured sweet nothings in patrons’ ears; it was, and always had been, nothing more than that. Innocent flirting. While, in earnest, his bed had never remained empty for too long, the occasional vapid young flapper finding her way there on some occasions; the Host had not quite intended for that to happen (or, well, not initially. As the night grew older and entire bottles of gin coursed through his veins, boundaries between harmless lies and reality grew thinner).

”Well, you can’t blame a bloke for trying.” A slight scoff escaped his lips, something between a huff and a chuckle, parted in a wide grin, as he turned his gaze to the floor with a minor shrug. He had taken the opportunity of removing his gaze from her in order to fish a golden cigarette case out of the lapel of his jacket, followed by a matching lighter.

He retracted two cigarettes, placing one between his curled lips before he held the other out for the young lady to take.

”After all, beautiful thing such as yourself – I could not allow for the night to pass by without at least attempting to introduce myself.”

“That ain’t gonna make you happy.”

The nightmares had been bad again. Grady feels like his mind is chasing shadows, wisps of smoky memories instead of solid details of things that really happened. Most nights he doesn’t know where he ends up, crashing on someone’s floor or couch. Some nights he gets to sleep in their bed. There was one thing common between all of these people who come and go in his life: alcohol.

The dark bottle was cool in his hand as he raises it from where it had sat by the window from the night before. He doesn’t remember coming to the apartment but someone had been kind enough to put a pillow under his head. Nightmares jerked him awake from his passed out state and he was just yearning to go back. To see nothing but black instead of the faces of the dead and dying.

Grady doesn’t expect the sweet voice behind him as he raises the bottle. It was one he had brought earlier, could remember that much, so he didn’t care to be drinking from it. Not that he cared much anyways.

“Ain’t lookin’ fer happy.” He twists to look at the woman, taking in the unfamiliar face and he’s pretty sure that she owned this place. Maybe he had met her last night. He doubts she was the one to be polite enough to pillow his head. “Happy don’ mean shit, ’m looking fer quiet.” Lips quirk in to a mean grin, reminiscent of the tanker he was before he takes another long drink, ready to take the bottle with him to lay back down.
