“Quicker than me,” Harry agrees, looking around anxiously. “What are you reading in this crowd now? It’s feeling pretty tense to me, personally.”

“It’ll be fine.” Neville’s voice still shakes a little bit. He doesn’t know how well he can handle this. He’s not sure he can handle it at all. “You’ve been to your fair share of these trials, Luna. And there’s plenty of students testifying against the Carrows. Not wanting me to go alone doesn’t mean you have to be the one to go with me.”

“I am looking at you, Luna,” Ginny says quietly. “I’ve never known anyone better than you.” Her lips turn upwards in a small smile. “Anyone that tells you otherwise is gonna’ have to answer to me. You’re better than the lot of us.” She reaches out and tucks a few strands of Luna’s hair behind her ear. “Okay?”

Ginny’s brows go up, but there’s no objection. She shifts over in her bed, wiping at her face to get rid of any traces of tears. She hasn’t felt so alone in a long time, but here and now, it’s a hollow feeling that won’t leave.

So many losses. So many funerals. It feels like it’ll never end. She wipes at her face again.

“Thanks, Luna,” she says quietly. “I’m really glad you’re here.”

"Do you ever think we should just stop doing this?"

They’re putting themselves at risk-- they all are. The Carrows currently control the school, and Neville knows the risks that restarting Dumbledore’s Army could bring down on them. But he knows what they’re doing is right. He knows they need to stick together. Still, it all has consequences. Augusta Longbottom is on the run, but Luna’s dad isn’t. He looks over at her.

“If this is too much of a risk.... I don’t want anyone you care about getting hurt.”
