I listened to the finales of Winter in Heiron, spoiler free/low-spoiler thoughts follow: A) Austin is such a good dm, I am constantly in awe of him and I *love* how he uses the "give the player a tough choice" rule. B) That was some insane, amazing fucking shit and ridiculous odds and swashbucklery and desperate choices and characters fucking up and A FUCKING HOMEBREW GAME OF LAW. He made his own RP system/hack so they could have a cool court case. Uhhhh, I love him. C) I especially enjoyed the abjectly cruel ways he tied up the holiday special with the finales D) I am going to miss those characters incredibly, oh God E) it took me at least half the season to realize this game was Torchwood-mood (by which I mean - characters being complicated and failing to save the day more often than not) which I think is hard to pull off in a role playing game without frustrating the players and making the story feel unsatisfying. I guess the antidote to that is just strong storytelling. I loved every loss the characters endured.
