"Neue Deutsche Welle" was the German version of the New Wave, Post-Punk and Minimal Synth craze in the early- to mid-80s. Often overlooked due to the popularity of its UK and US brothers and sisters, some real gems can be found here nevertheless.
What makes it different to the other forms of New Wave are two extremes: on one hand an alliance with the German "Schlager" thing that it times made it more kitschy and over-the-top harmonic than the common New Wave Pop, on the other hand a move towards pure Dada asthetics that was more nihilist in its production approach and attitude than a lot of comparable output elsewhere.
Somehow, most bands of this era steered between these two extremes, creating a kind of Dada Schlager in German language with New Wave electronics as the matrix and background.
In this mix I tried to use both well-known and best-selling acts, and those of the more underground variety. Enjoy!
