Can I be greedy for the ask meme thing? 3, 4, 5, 14, 15 for "Ships in the night" and/or "business before pleasure".13 for any/all of your fics please? WOW THIS IS REALLY GREEDY SORRY you dont have to do all of them if you dont want :3
Hey :) Feeling a bit generous today so here we go:
SHIPS IN THE NIGHT
3. Favorite Line/s of Narration
So far, every single Reset is just a variation of him falling in love with Lee Pace. And every single day following that is just a variation of making Lee Pace fall for him.
If his true goal is to save Lee, then maybe, just maybe, his efforts to make the man love him back is hampering his progress. Maybe he is really not meant to end up with Lee. Maybe he’s been doing this the wrong way all along.
Or what if this is not only about saving Lee? Perhaps this loop is a chance for Richard to remake himself. To have a chance at a better ending for the two of them. An ending that may or may not involve Lee Pace loving him back.
If this is going to be his life now, then Richard wants to find a way to lessen the impact of the Resets on him. He cannot let this destroy him like this every single time. If he is meant to save Lee Pace, then he needs to get his life together and stop acting like a lovesick puppy all the time.
Then again, what if he is really the one who died? Maybe this is purgatory. Or maybe even hell.
‘Okay, probably not. But, who can really tell for sure?’
4. Favorite Line/s of DialogueI’ve got so many, but here’s one from Chapter 9. It still haunts me.
“Tomorrow, when we wake up, are you gonna regret this?” Lee asks softly while tracing the blue mark on his side. This time he doesn’t ask what it means or why Richard has it in the first place.
“Are you?” Richard counters, unwilling to answer the question because a part of him already does.
5. Hardest Part to WriteSo far, certain parts of the latest chapter. Homophobia and bi-erasure are two issues that matter to me, and of course, I don’t ever want to subject my characters to such treatment, but the plot called for it. I dunno if I did justice to those parts, but that subplot is still not over.
14. Something I want the readers to learnLive in the moment. The main characters in this fic are so burdened by either their past or their future that they sometimes forget to live the life they have at the moment. This sounds kinda spoilery, so… *sweat drops*
15. What I learned from writing this ficOutlines are helpful AF, but don’t be afraid to stray away from it. Sometimes, the most amazing part of a chapter just came to me while writing the first draft. I live for moments like that.
BUSINESS BEFORE PLEASURE
3. Favorite Line/s of Narration
There is a reason behind his choice of alias. Over time, he has become an expert at packing himself away and becoming someone else’s John.John Porter.John Proctor, sometimes.John Thornton, for a bit of variety.John is such an unassuming, flavorless name, making it the perfect base for his clients’. oft-times, delicious fantasies.
4. Favorite Line/s of Dialogue
“I like this job,” Lee says after a moment. “I’m not like him, trying to make ends meet while I wait for my big break. I wanted this life, and I knew what I was getting into.”
“You honestly like it?”
“Well, you see, people pay me to have sex,” Lee explains with all the gravitas he can muster.
“Really?” Richard asks, wide-eyed and visibly struggling to maintain a straight face. “I’ve never heard of such a thing. Tell me more.”
Snickering, Lee takes a sip of his wine. “It’s always an adventure, isn’t it? Different people, different fantasies. You never know what you’re gonna get. Plus, the pay’s not too shabby.“
"Yeah,” Richard agrees, finally allowing a grin to form on his wine-stained lips. “Can’t beat that.”
“Is that why you do it? For fun? Or is it the money?”
“A bit of both, sure.” Richard sinks to the back of the couch, head resting on the soft leather so that he is staring up at the ceiling. “I like… I like the people. You meet all kinds, but they’re all so desperate for company, for some sort of connection. It’s nice to give that to them, even if it’s just for a short while.”
5. Hardest Part to Write
The smut part. It’s not the usual ‘first time’ plus I wanted to capture the nuances without going off-track from the plot.
14. Something I wanted the readers to learnWishful thinking can only get you so far. Be brave, trust your instinct, and take that step.
15. What I learned from writing this ficI actually did some research on how cross-dressing escorts operate, and there is this reddit Q&A thing done by an actual escort, who used to do this. He told the most fascinating stories about his former client, and I figured this is how I want my LP to be like in the fic.
13. What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
LP CLONEVERSE - Seven Nation Army by The White StripesSHIPS IN THE NIGHT - Ships in the Night by Mat Kearney for the first 10 chapters; Geronimo by Sheppard for the latter chaptersTASTE MY LOVE - Sick of Losing Soulmates by dodieTHE ONE WITH ALL THE WINDOWS - BITE by Troye SivanMARCH 15: EVERYTHING YOU DO IS WRONG DAY - for him. by Troye SivanMARCH 16: EVERYTHING YOU DO IS RIGHT DAY - False Alarm by Matoma ft.
