Them: I would've preferred if they never showed any of their double set at all.
Me: Aye well rather than upset everyone by only playing 2 songs.
Me: They were just as well showing none of it. 2 songs, and the 2 most well known at that, that's just spittin on the poor sods that couldnae see it live for real. shocking. Didn't expect you'd understand mate. What with you not being that mad about music. I'm glad to see you've seen the light.
Them: I enjoy music as much as any person, I'm just not quite as aggressively passionate about it as some people.
Them: Some people would murder you if so much as criticise their favourite band.
Me: I find it best to laugh it off. we can't all have the same tastes. I just couldn't not be as passionate as I am about LP, I owe it to them after all they've done. That's pretty much the universal LP fan ethos. More so the tumblr based fans, a very strict non hate environment.
Them: What have they done that's so significant? Subjectively one could say that any band has done as much just by recording their music and selling albums.
Me: Well no, because not every band makes music and albums that you like as much as your favourite yeah?
Them: Something can be your favourite without being more or less significant than an other band. It's just personal preference.
Me: Exactly, they are personally more significant to me than others. That's what makes them my favourite.
They're not significant because of my preference.
They are my favourite because of personal significance.
Them: Why are they so significant?
Me: I just love their sound and willingness to be reinventive with each album, as opposed to just stick to the same formula, or just go by what's cool now. Like so many bands do nowadays, like haym and churches. I love mike's style of classic hip-hop rapping blending perfectly with the heavy instrumentality and post apoc electronic sounds. Their songs remind me of happy moments in my life, they helped me get through depression (however unlikely that may seem) their music, along with One Piece (a manga/anime, yes i'm one of those types now) was the core inspiration and boost I needed to spur me on to actually pursue and explore my hobby instead of just thinking about it. So many reasons.
Me: That's what makes them significant to me. Are they or any other band significant to the world on a grand scale? Perhaps not. but that doesn't matter.
