Literature Review Reflection

As the semester progressed, my topic for the Literature Review changed a bit to Corruption in Mexico. I still analyzed this topic from a business standpoint to see how companies and policies in this country work for a potential career destination. Prior to completing this assignment I had a pretty good idea that corruption is a big problem in Mexico and is holding the country back to becoming a more powerful economy. I consider this to be my best assignment by meeting the criteria and fulfilling the purpose. As I mentioned before, this assignment gave me a real insight of how the world of business works in Mexico. The HOLY CRAAP video really helped me to choose sources and answer my research questions more effectively. I think my topic was very unique as I really engaged in my writing process.

Lit Review Reflection

The rhetorical issues and methods that I used consisted of trial and error. My research questions were one of the harder decisions based on the lack of knowledge that I had about the gender wage gap. 

My research methodology was frustrating especially looking for scholarly articles as their method of information delivery is quite advanced. The other was trying to find nonbiased articles and making sure they were credible sources. I do believe that surveys are a good method to find someone’s personal beliefs and thoughts concerning the wage gap but still uncertain whether it is more effective than an interview. 

This methodology works only if everything is kept in neutrality. I found that as long as a plan in set and defined well then there should be no issues, but with an assignment this large deviation is almost unavoidable.

I believe that question number two about the patterns in my research is the most important. The method that I used to answer the question was the usage of the gif of Supernatural and how he’s questioning the reference (methodology meaning). After I realized what the question meant, I believe that there was a lot of articles and sources that I read that seemed like hieroglyphs especially those with complex words and statistics. The building of sources and information was a bigger detriment that I had previously thought it would be.

What is the value, if any, in writing a Literature Review?

A literature review helps organize your thoughts and present them in a self-explanatory manner.

What was the most challenging aspect of writing the LR?

Finding all the needed references that you need to make a strong argument and making sure they are reliable sources.

What was the most rewarding aspect of writing the LR?

Reading your final edit of the paper and realizing you've learned more of your subject than you would expect.

Would you ever think to use this genre, the LR, again? If so, why, or how? If no, why not?

If perhaps I had to write a research paper or a report, a literature review would seem like a good idea. Besides that their is no real need to do so.

2. What was the most challenging aspect of writing the LR?

Quality & Quantity at the same time. As broad as it really sounds, honestly it does make my brain feel like it’s been bombed like (I’m afraid I can’t go further in this joke, but as long as the point is across. 

3. What was the most rewarding aspect of writing the LR?

Finishing the 8 page Essay after spending a lot of time on it.

4. Would you ever think to use this genre, the LR, again? If so, why, or how? If no, why not?

From a personal perspective, this is really something I would do only because I have to do it or it is requirement. At least not in the way of an 8-page LR essay.

The Literature Review Reflection

To reflect on the literature review, let me first say, “Thank God it’s over”. I learned a lot of information pertaining to the Department of Justice. I think this helps me conduct better research for future assignments. I think I included graphics really well in this assignment. The literature review was difficult in many ways. First we had to have an abstract that summarizes the purpose for writing our report. This was to show our readers what the report is intended to determine and provide the objective overview. This was the last thing I did, because I was able to include sentences from each body paragraph in my abstract. Next was the introduction, which was supposed to introduce the issue and provide background information that supports the issue. Also this is where I included my research questions and my thesis statement that focuses on the topic. The body consisted of each research question and any supporting paragraphs that answers the question. I was able to find a lot of research on my topic and present facts supporting the issue. Finally the conclusion ended with letting the readers know that my research provided an opportunity to create a knowledge base for them to continue to develop ideas and draw from in order to understand the issue more fully. This total literature review was 12 pages long to include a title page and reference page. I learned many things about my topic that I had not known before. I also learned that doing strenuous research on your topic and continually to get other writer’s input on your paper is key to writing an effective literature review.
