Literature Review Topic Proposal

The topic I have chosen for my Literature Review is discrimination within the police force. The reason I chose this topic is because I am a criminal justice major who wants to become a police officer in the future, as a stepping stone to becoming a U.S. Marshal. Given my race, I am concerned that I might face discrimination in my future career. By doing this research, I hope to gain insight on our criminal justice system. 

Research Questions:

1. Is there any discrimination based on race, age, gender, or sexual orientation when recruiting new members to the police force?

2. Is there any discrimination within the police force when it comes to pay and promotions?

3. Is there any discrimination within the police force when assigning jobs and beats to police officers?

4. Do police typically represent the population that they are serving?

I am concerned that my topic is a little too broad and that I might have trouble finding enough research. Should I just focus on the police force in one state or on the country as a whole? Should I include many factors of discrimination or just one, like race?

Potential Cashless Society

My purpose of choosing this topic is to better understand the effect electronic money have on the production of paper money, the trends of electronic financial transaction verses traditional paper money transactions, and the plan the United States has (if any) for the production of legal tender in the future.

My issue or concern about the topic is the lack of comparison data as no society is completely electronic which is a kind of limitation for this research project. However, I will be conducting my research around the following questions

1. Has the popularity of electronic transactions decreased the production of hard currency in United States?

2. Are there currently more electronic transactions than hard currency transactions in the United States?

Does the United States have plan to phase out legal tender?

What are the concerns of changing to a cashless society?
