Hanging with my peeps
So I just spent an entire week in Austin Texas at a leadership training with colleagues from all over the world. This, for me, was such a great experience because I learned several things. First of all- those of us who work in Instructional design and/or Instructional technology speak our own language. Though some, including myself are more quiet than others, we very much have similar mindsets and we all have a story to tell. It doesn’t matter if we are from Ohio, Texas, California, Quatar or the Netherlands- we all do the same types of jobs, with the same types of equipment and encounter the same struggles regardless of school or staff size. We learned much about how to be leaders in the IT world, which encompassed life lessons such as - when you attend a meeting with co-workers or colleagues- be present- not just physically but mentally. Listen to what others have to say- don’t just go through the motions of nodding and shaking your head- really listen! Contribute! If you don’t use your voice, no one will know you have one. You are in that meeting because you have some value to the group - so speak up and show your worth! These things are the stuff of which great teams are made and ideas are born. Creativity and innovation are not products of silence but of those who dare to speak!
Student Fran from @leedscofart begins the long task of hand sewing 50 #photobooks for our exhibition #ltl2016. Two days before her uni project deadline as well...pretty impressive, thanks Fran. (at Leeds)
