Hyrule sighed as he leaned against the railing of the stairs that fed into the ambulance bay. He knew he needed to review protocols and the drug formulary just for the sake of maintaining his knowledge, but it was still a drudgery sometimes.
Employing Mo to help was probably not his best idea.
A glove slingshot its way to his face, making him yelp. Mo watched him dully from where he stood, back against the wall.
āOkay, epinephrine next,ā Mo said.
āWhich one?ā Hyrule asked. āThereās the 1g per 1,000mL and 1g per 10,000mL.ā
Mo scrunched his face, working the math out in his head. ā1:1000 and 1:10,000 right⦠how many is that per mL?ā
āWell, a gram is 1,000mg, so it would be 1000:1000 for one of them and 1000:10000 for the other,ā Hyrule reasoned out, feeling his brain numb. āSo the dose we use for respiratory and allergic stuff is 1mg per 1mL, and the cardiac dose is 0.1mg per mL.ā
āAll right, well now that we settled that, tell me the use and dosage for both.ā
Hyrule groaned.
He was about to go into explaining how the typical dose for 1:1000, which was used for severe respiratory emergencies and anaphylaxis, was 0.01mg/kg up to 0.5mg for the initial IM dose. But when he opened his mouth, a familiar tune started to hammer out a beat that echoed throughout the empty ambulance bay.
Was that Tokyo Drift??
Mo and Hyrule both straightened just in time to see Aurora blaze by on a stair chair, sunglasses on despite the nightfall, as her phone blared Tokyo Drift at top volume. Dawn followed her, exasperated and trying to say something but it was inaudible over the din.
As the music faded away while Aurora nearly tipped her stair chair over on the pavement outside, Mo asked, āAnd whatās the dosage for Haldol for psychotic people?ā
Hyrule squinted, and found that he was drawing a blank. āCrap. I donāt remember.ā
Mo sighed. āWeāre screwed.ā
So I was flipping through TT at 1am (I make no apologies) and this video showed up. I'm giggling along and the last one played and I immediately went, "yeah that's Hyrule".
Anyway, don't know what you want to do with this but I'd love a small prompt if you find it as funny as my 1am brain.
If not, no worries. š

Twilight sifted aimlessly through social media on his phone before he spat out his water. Wild jumped, glancing over at him. "You good?"
Twilight was too busy wheezing to answer, but he flipped the phone around as Hyrule came over, and the paramedic stopped dead in his tracks.
Wild squinted, leaning in to look carefully at where Twilight had replayed the video, only to see Hyrule in a tutu standing on a shovel as he was slowly rotated in a ballet pose by his partner, Mo. The caption said, When you're on Day 2 of a 48.
Hyrule's face redenned. "MO SAID HE WASN'T GONNA POST THAT!"
Wild cried from laughter, and he told himself he'd get Mo's number just to thank him for this addition to his life.

I unexpectedly had an extra job interview this week, and I'm thankful for my roommates being supportive while I try to find a new job (especially when they do things like cook dinner). Can I request something with Hyrule, please? š
Hyrule put the blood pressure cuff away as he said, āWell, your vitals are all within normal limits. Weāre more than happy to take you to the hospital to get checked out, though.ā
The elderly woman hummed, and then she sighed. āOh, itās all right. I think this back pain is just from our bed. Weāve had it for a while.ā
āTime to go mattress shopping,ā Mo said cheerily. āMy mattress is getting pretty bad too, itās sad how short a lifespan they have.ā
āOh, ours has been around for a while,ā the woman said with a nostalgic smile. āWe got it when we were first married forty years ago.ā
Wow. That was old. That bed must have been very worn down.
That was what Hyrule planned on saying, of course, but it was 2am so instead what came out was, āWow, that bedās seen a lot of action.ā
The patientās husband chuckled huskily. āOh yeah it has.ā
Hyrule and Mo froze, and Hyrule felt his cheeks stain so red they were scalding. āUh right so anyway, sign here if you donāt want to go to the hospital.ā
As they packed their things and got back in the truck, Mo grabbed the radio and glared at Hyrule. āYouāre grounded. You go straight to bed when we get back.ā
Hyrule groaned, face in his hands, as Mo muttered, āLast thing I needed at 2am was the mental image of how much action that mattress has seen between an eighty year old couple, ugh kill meāā
3 sentence prompt word: burn
Hyrule whipped out his phone anxiously as he tried to remember the calculation for fluid resuscitation on his burn patient. He didnāt have time for this, couldnāt they come up with something better?
āGimme,ā Mo said, snatching the phone. āTell me what to calculate so you can secure that airway.ā
Secureā¦? But it was fineā
Hyrule heard progressively worsening stridor from his patient and he immediately moved to work on intubating.
Outbreak Pt 3 (LU in Healthcare)
(Content warning, this is a plague fic, it will likely hit close to home, and thereās dark humor and character death in this part)
It started off as a whisper, but the whisper became a chatter, a groan, constant and disturbing and growing ever closer.
Cases were on the rise in the city, though the surrounding area seemed unaffected still, for now. City officials were growing concerned, and restrictions were starting to be enacted. People were asked to stay home, if possible. As for the hospital and squadsā¦
Hyrule squinted at his email. "Wait. Didn't... didn't they say we could use alcohol wipes to clean the equipment?"
"Yeah," Mo called from the kitchenette in the station.
"Now it says we can only use bleach wipes."
Mo groaned. "Isn't that like the third policy change this week?"
Something I'm grateful for. This is probably gonna sound silly, since it's also been a source of stress, but... Being home alone this week. It is hard taking care of everything on my own, but it also proves to myself that I can actually take care of myself, and future goals are more in reach than I think.
It's also nice having the place to myself, because I can do stuff without having to worry about others. I've had a very productive morning that started at 2am because I didn't have to worry about waking anyone up š
Hyrule breathed steadily, trying to slow his heart rate as he washed his hands and arms of the blood that his patient had been coughing and vomiting everywhere during transport. He could still feel his body shaking a little at the adrenaline rush that was tearing through his body, and then he stiffened as he heard the code alarm go off in the emergency department.
Swallowing, he wiped his arms and stepped into the hall to see what heād suspected, watching people rush to the room he and Mo had just exited.
āDang, that didnāt take long,ā Mo muttered beside him. āCome on, Link, we gotta go. Another call just dropped.ā
Hyrule sighed as he stared at the dispatch info that came across his phone, and then rolled his eyes. āAbnormal labs?? Iām gonna blow up that nursing home.ā
āYeah, no kidding,ā Mo grumbled. āAnother day in paradise.ā
