what do you reckon Sephiroth would be like as a boyfriend pre vs Post-Nibelheim and as a father Pre vs Post-Nibelheim? 👀
as someone who has a yumeship with sephiroth both in writing, in the sims and now in tomodachi life, thank you so much for giving me the room to talk about this ^^

Pre-Nibelheim! Sephiroth is... Not the best boyfriend.
He's not terrible by any means, but rather awfully clumsy due to his inadequacy. He wasn't taught to be a friend, so you can very easily imagine that the concept of being boyfriend had never even crossed his mind either.
He never asks to be your boyfriend either, not really. But you, being his little bubble of peace, the only one seeing past his slightly off-putting presence and noticing the tiniest things about him, started introducing him as such.
Frankly, the first time he had heard it, he was confused. You probably had to sit him down and explain to him what it meant to be a boyfriend, and how he had given you every reason to bestow the title upon him.
He doesn't talk much, he doesn't express his feelings, but the impossible warmth and fondness in his gaze whenever he noticed you being around was nothing short of love.
When he's away on missions, he makes sure that you're alright, sending you mails that are probably very dry, up until he notices the emoticons you use, leading to messages such as : 'I'm done. ^^' being sent to you just as his last enemy falls to the ground. When he misses you while he's away, you can be sure that he would stroke the silly good luck trinket you gave him a while back, that he had promptly attached to his sword.
Sephiroth who doesn't have the luxury of having a family, or even a place to call home, find himself over at your place a lot. He's very pliant too, eating everything you make without complaints, not really understanding why you would go out of your way to even cook for him. He doesn't need to eat much, but for you, he would lick the plate clean.
If you are upset, he makes it a point to fix whatever it is that caused it, without always asking you. If you are sad, he's... helpless. Unequipped to really deal with it. If you're happy, then he lets himself bask into it.
You never hear comforting or affectionate words for him, but you feel it, just how important you are to him, what you mean to him, and a core memory you keep close to you was just how agitated he became when you caught the flu once. It felt as though his whole world was ending then and there.
So really, you did not have much worries when you got pregnant by him. You saw it in his eyes, how the information did not seem to process in his mind that his family-less self was building his own.
And I can promise you, you are very much taken care of, almost bedbound because he refused to let you lift a finger, waking up to seeing him with his hair up and surrounded by books about cooking as he tries to figure it out. You'd wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and see him reading books about parenthood, his eyes lazer focused on the page while he asks you where you're going, supporting your back with a singular hand to help get up.
He was all about efficiency, but a baby isn't.
From the day his daughter was born, he felt... Lost.
He had a few names for her : 'Spawn', 'Daughter of mine', 'Tiny one', you cannot recall a singular time he had called her by her name. And still, you had never seen him so willing, a brand new light in his eyes when he crossed the threshold of your home and was welcomed by his little girl.
She was spoiled from the beginning. Much like he was with you and couldn't stand seeing you upset, he could not fathom the idea of her being inconvenienced, upset, and God forbid she cried.
He even considered bringing her along with him on a mission once, which you shut down as fast as the thought rose.
And perhaps, that could've been it. Your little family.
Except it wasn't.
His daughter made him that much more eager to find out his roots, to protect her, to understand what had happened to his peers.
And that's when Nibelheim happened.
You hadn't heard from him in weeks, though you'd wake up with a singular black feather on your pillow signing that he was there, not that as Shinra tried to make it seem.
Your daughter stopped crying for him, even weirder, she'd be eager to go to bed, claiming that her 'Papa' visited her during the night.
You knew he was here. But Sephiroth didn't talk, so you wouldn't expect him to face you and tell you what exactly had happened.
You were still taken care of though. You weren't sure how, but you were.
To say he didn't consider killing you would be a lie. After all, he wanted to get rid of humanity, he wanted to make sure to give an ending worth of your love for him. It wouldn't be rough, or cruel, or even painful.
But he also that thought died the day you stayed up and caught him in your daughter's room, looking at him with the utmostr disappointment in your eyes.
A quiet apology would leave his lips, because for the first time, he couldn't do anything about what made you upset. Not much talking would be done, because despite everything, it was still him.
He was still your boyfriend. He still loved you and your daughter despite it all.
But for your own wellbeing, he couldn't be around you, his home had been taken away from him in the blink of an eye, from his own doing. If anything, that only served to further his spiral.
Rest assured, the thoughts of harming you had left the second you kissed him despite it all. Because underneath the anger, the confusion, you were grateful that he was alive. You were semi-grateful that he tried to be here in his daughter, as different as the light in his eyes was.
It wasn't truly him, but it was still him enough for you to toss those worries aside for the next couple of hours.
Your life would never be the same.
Your family would never be what it once was.
But perhaps, those worries simply did not matter when you finally felt him buried inside you again after all these months.
And certainly, the plans he had for you and your daughter, his living legacy, were far more merciful than what he reserved to most.
